If you retain the attitute of its one of those things you may find something comes your way in the right price range-certainly theres always good bats on the forum, theres 2 crackers in the for sale section.
I try myself.....to think a bat is a natural thing and could break at any time.
When it does go its gutting(your one is going to go im sure) but something else might be round the corner price wise
 :)

My advice, put any glue you can in there without opening it up as you don't want to make it any worse. Refurb as you would and then bind/tape or both and have a good prayer. As buzz said could be 3 balls or 300 runs

@tom line, if I thought this would help in any way I'd try it. But the crack is so fine there's no chance of getting any meaningful glue in there.  And as for binding it, that would be fine if it were a vertical crack, but for a horizontal one like this I can't see what good it would do... or is there a specific way of binding it that I'd not thought of? It looks like prayer is my best bet.  One thing, of course I've no idea how long the crack's been there since the area's been hidden all this time. With luck it's been there some time and it's not opening up. The Kudos stickers I'm going to put on are mostly transparent so I'll be able to see whether it's getting worse.

Try model makers penetrating glue for the crack

Well, sad to say it looks like you were all correct. After I finished my refurb (my very own Newbery stickered Aldred, how prescient  ;)) it looked lovely and I couldn't even see the crack. However I netted with it last night and it's opened up some more, there's even a crease in the sticker where it must have flexed. It's going to be firewood very soon  :(

If it's been your favourite all these years have you considered getting it copied by one of the sponsors? B3 specialise in it obviously or I'm sure Matt at H4L could copy it if that's your preference? Or are you just going to try something completely new?

I don't know, I think for the meantime I'll probably go back to my hattori even though I couldn't quite get on with it last season, though don't think I can really blame it for my loss of form.  I think if I add to my (tiny) collection I'll make a break with the past, I'm sure if I tried to reproduce it I'd end up disappointed.

Yes no joy reading the update felix some of us only knew what would happen because we have suffered the same issues - there's really nothing can be done when it goes like this, when my h4l spilt in half last year(unseen storm damage ) whilst everyone else thought it hilarious in my team, I was quietly shedding a tear, it was a lovely bat  :)

Still....onwards and upwards as has been said. The for sale section of the forum has been great recently for second hand and has been said B3 everyone seems happy with on here(top service) and h4l have proved themselves excellent to deal with.

There's lots of choice thou for new bats, as northern says, if you really like the shape maybe a copy of the deceased one may be better.

Good luck, there's prob somethings just as good round the corner.

Just started refurbing my Aldred. Removed the sticker on the back and found this....

I can't decide how worried I should be about it. It seems like a very shallow crack (hard to see on the photo), but surely a very nasty place for this to happen to my inexpert eye. Any thoughts?

On the plus side, the anti scuff left behind loads of glue but white spirit took it off excellently.

I see the crack progressing towards the edge. Unfortunately this is going to be terminal. The bat may have some runs left in it though it is going to break soon!

I'm resigned to its inevitable demise, so on an impulse bought @tom line 's Charlie French last night to replace it. Same weight and looks like a similar kind of profile
