County Championship 2017
« on: March 26, 2017, 11:23:13 AM »

As I type the curtain raiser to the County season is happening, as the MCC take on Middlesex in Abu Dhabi. You can even watch live on Youtube here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQ8opcdhgFo

Quite excited to see what the Surrey team can do this year, on paper we look pretty stacked with the bat. Also it's good to see that the schedule allows so many England players to be available for the opening rounds minus the lads who are at the IPL.

Have played at Sheik Zayed when I worked there, Durham to smash any league we are relegated to.

And the Yorkshire lads who need to rest?

England certainly making sure YJB is not over worked, presuming no one really believes there's some dark forces behind it, maybe the selectors want to build the England side round him root and stokes, and maybe woakes(y) for the next 5 years.

Runs again today for Duckett and joe Clarke. Ben is certainly keeping his name in the frame at the moment.

Wickets for podmore  and Ravi Patel, who play sometimes in the same league as me. Although at a far,far higher standard of course

:-).

I watched Clarke's first twenty or so runs. He looks like someone who idolised MP Vaughan growing up.

Here is a philosophical question, if James Franklin bowls should it be a first class match?

Malans legspin is usually pretty inviting aswell

Bairstow hasn't played, aside from a 50 over knockabout, in three months. He should line up for Yorkshire in all three games, as should Root. But von Strauss and the ECB continue to devalue the championship by stacking the deck for the Southern kolpakshires.

mccu games are underway, just checked the notts scorecard and noticed the cambridge mccu skipper and wicket keeper is someone i went to school with...

bit of a surprise knew he was fairly decent didn't think he was that good though, its a shame notts have blown them away a little bit!

Surrey look strong - their bowling stocks are quite something.
I've enjoyed watching Footitt and Meaker make the hapless Oxford MCCU striplings hop about.

I hope Hampshire plummet without trace into a bog of discord and terrible Afrikaans folk songs.

Just noticed Henriques is back for T20 whilst Sanga's away, pleased with that.

Will be interesting how the side lines up for Warwickshire next week, most of the team picks itself but Sibley will be a bit hard done by if he doesn't get in

Roy is will be away a lot. so Sibley should play a bit. I enjoyed watching him take two hours to go from 44 to 55 on Tuesday.

I dunno, lots of competition with the likes of Harinath and Ollie Pope.

I guess next week will be something like Burns/Stoneman/Borthwick/Sanga/Foakes/S Curran/T Curran/Foottit and then 3 from Batty/Ansari/Meaker/Sibley/Dernbach
