I think @dannyhall04 was being sarcastic and suggesting that if the previous poster didn't like the price of the top of the range he could buy one of the lower grades for a more appealing price.

True . Or i could buy a top of the line bat from many other companies  .
My reference , to g.m custom edition / players edition etc $ = functional car $ , still holds true however one feels re the appropriateness of g.m's pricing .... and i thought it was an interesting comparison / observation .

That's not something just found with Gm though, it's across the board with all the major manufacturers and even some smaller almost unknown brands charge big boy prices nowadays

The biggest increase in input costs over the years is willow, specifically as used for LE bats. Doesn't grow on trees you know.

The yield of timber suitable for us to sell as LE has dropped alarmingly over the years, so top grades in particular have suffered a disproportionate increase.

Not sure I fancy driving to a match in your car though!

Kind regards

To clarify @Edward Lowy I was being sarcastic earlier to make the point that other grades are available, and are usually great quality. I've had a few myself!

It's definitely an interesting comparison and to be honest I wouldn't dream of spending £500 on a bat myself but it seems to be the way of it now, top end models from GM, Kook, GN etc. are all similar in price.

Agreed, had some great GM's in 404, 606 etc over the years, just need to hunt around or find a shop like Vitas or Uzi who can let you know when something special shows up.

GM Player Edition £515

Gray Nics Legend £599

Yes you can buy a car for that, and indeed one of my first cars was less than that. I recently sold my 13 year old BMW for £300. Top end bats are getting more expensive, but i don't see this being unique to GM, and certainly based on the top end bats we've had from them, the quality is absolutely top of the line.

Great pics. That Mana just shrieks Contemporary Classic. That piece of willow is truly exceptional, we stand by our grading 100%

For me GM are the most underrated of the big brands. Never touched them until last year, because of a painted junior bat I had as a 10 year old that I didn't like, but am really happy with their bats I have since  had. Performance finish etc is as good as anything I would say. Have an LE Paragon from Vitas that I love and one or 2 more on the way that I am assured are if anything better.

Thanks for the heads up ... i had previously thought willow , being a tree , 'grew on trees' , but yes , i get the joke , and the point re l.e g1 willow being increasingly rare .
Prices are still prices though .
Re the car .... not mine , but I'd happily get a lift in it any time .

As a contrast, on the UK's biggest (or they claim to be anyway?) online cricket retailer, the top price GM is the 22nd most expensive bat. You're just on the wrong side of the globe ;)

edit: actually seriously you are on the wrong side of the globe, everything else on your Kingsgrove list is made in Aus or India - of course English made stuff is dearer by the time it's got to you!

Loved the video and old/new/humours theme :)

I am not sure what you have done with pressing but over the last year or 2 GM bats are wonderful to play with, for me atleast, People love Lavers but I hate the pressing and how it takes 3 seasons for the bat to open up, I am glad that is not the case with GM's anymore.
