Played my first league game for many years in the Worcester League yesterday, having stopped playing due to having young kids and a wife who works weekends.  It couldn't have gone any better on my debut for my new club. Played for the 2's and opposition got 231 for 5 off 45. This was largely thanks to an explosive 59 in just 5 overs from a young lad towards the end. He did a good job of wrecking my tidy spell and resulted in me finishing with 1-49 off 7 overs.

I came in at 30-2 and wanted to be as positive as possible but without taking too many risks. We kept ourselves well on target but kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. I finished up 103 not out as we won with 2 overs to spare at 232-7. When I walked out to bat our opening bowler said if you get a ton I'll buy the jug, and too be fare he was true to his word!  :D

You didn't play against OE's 4s Saturday did you @beaver5?

Only asking as my old man opens the batting for them, he got 60 odd I think but was moaning yesterday about how they still managed to lose after putting on 230 - he also mentioned about a particularly good ton from a bloke that hadn't played for years so I'm putting 2 and 2 together!!

First game back after injury yesterday; for a new club and in a new league. It was actually a cup game against a side two divisions above, so I was quite nervous when asked to open the batting.

Luckily the first ball was straight and my forward defensive shot was solid, and after that good start I was away! I lost a few partners early on, and by the time the team score was 50, I had 39! Later on I was ably supported by the middle order and eventually fell to a diving catch at deep midwicket for 66. The team managed 217-8 in our 45 overs. Unfortunately we dropped the oppo's captain first ball, and went on to drop him a further 5 times as he blasted a century to take his team to victory.

WCL website the word on debut is a good clue.

Poor weekend for me!

10-1-51-1 and a catch.

Batted at three, but within 9 balls of being out there I had five different batting partners - when you have no depth in the batting I had to try and stay out there and play for the draw, never been so bored. Last 13 overs before hitting a full toss down deep square legs throat for a painful one run.

Ended up getting bowled out for 93 and that was that - bowling on wet wicket down a hill has taken it's toll on my knees and back after sliding everywhere planting my front foot.

Missed out this weekend due to a broken toe - had to watch as our lads put on 279 for 4 declared in the glorious sunshine (not bitter in the slightest!)...

One of lads got a ton and @JB chipped in with an assured 46 before being bowled by what looked like a decent ball that nipped back.

Great game yesterday for my new club.

Bowled 7-0-27-4 as we bowled the oppo out for 212 from 39.4 of their 40 overs.

Batting got pinned by a bumper on the end of my thumb and couldn't grip the bat properly and was out an over or so later to a nothing ball from a new bowler for 25, thumb is large and purple today so think that could be me for a couple of weeks. Our opening went on the hit a fantastic ton. We needed 13 to win from the last over which was done in 3 balls by our opener as he finished on 120*.

Good bunch of lads and a win is a great way to end the weekend.

Haha perfect, well played mate

On a side note, until I moved down south I actually played for Kempsey (still on the committee oddly enough) - should be an interesting meeting between your 1s and ours in a few weeks time!

I'm sure I will have played against you as I play for Flyford Flavell on Sundays. Some of the Kempsey lads play for us on occasions. Yes should be a close match!

Turned up Saturday expecting to do the scoring, instead I limped around the outfield, praying my knee would hold up. Didn't bat or bowl.

Had a cracking friendly this afternoon. Won toss and opted to bat as I was led to believe the opposition were quite weak so I didn't want the scenario of chasing a low total where some of our players would not get a bat or a bowl.

Given my previous scores this season have been 5, 4, 2, 0, 0* and 0, I decided I would give the visiting bowlers some early encouragement by opening with myself but along with @sultanofswing (who is a proper batsman), we put on around 50 after 10 overs.  We then lost 2-3 wickets including an LBW to a textbook forward defensive but our umpire was only just getting started as a few overs later he then gave me out LBW in a similar fashion. In the fairness I only got an inside edge rather than the full face of the bat and sadly have to confess that I was more than mildly disenchanted with the decision as I trudged slowly off the field after scoring 40. However my dismissal actually worked in our favour as both my own innings and that of the team's had stagnated a bit by that point but some late order hitting (coupled with batsmen who can run rather than hobble) saw us reach 187 before we were all out in the final over (40th).

The rumour that our visitors couldn't bat turned out to be quite ill founded as both the openers got their team off to a very good start and even the loss of a wicket didn't really dent their run chase. Finally a double change of bowling saw the introduction of @sultanofswing (off-spin) who applied scoreboard pressure that was required that the opposition never recovered from. Our wicketkeeper was also on good form this afternoon with 2 stumpings and a run out so their innings closed around 15-20 runs short.

It was an excellent game of cricket where all our team batted and 9 of them bowled.

A really enjoyable cricket, excellent weather and a nice set of lads. Looking forward to my next appearance!

Disenchanted would also be mildly accurate!
