Week off as league oppo pulled out of the league. Would of been OK as we had been offered a friendly, however they cried off as well. Mood wasn't improved when the weather turned out nice. We've won 8 out of 10 games this season and had 3 abandoned. Two of the abandoned games have been in the last 4 weeks and also against the weak teams. We had the league leaders on a hiding before they played the rain card and ran away. To top it off a team that has won less than half its games is 1 point behind because they haven't had an abandoned game. It's an utter farce and even more frustrating when you can do nothing about it!

Went out on loan today (not for the team I batted 11 and didn't get a bowl) and had a pretty decent afternoon.

We lost the toss, got put in and collapsed to 28-5. However I came in at No.7 and with the skipper (No.6), we turned things around and got the score to over 100 before he was out after just passing 50. He was happy with me just anchoring one end (which suits my game perfectly) and ensured we batted our full 45 overs. We eventually posted 122-7 and I ended up 18 not out.

During tea, we had a 10-minute shower of rain and was then surprised when asked to open the bowling. Obviously, you don't say no and while I was relatively economical, I struggled to pose a serious threat with the wet ball and the opposition were cruising at 35 for no wicket. However, the lad opening the bowling at the other end was more expensive but looked far more of a threat and he finally got the break through. Opposition's No.3 could definitely hit a long ball and if he had stayed in, the opposition could have overhauled our total but he called (as non striker) for an absolutely suicidal single. Our keeper only slightly fumbled a leg-side delivery and calmly ran him out which swung the game in our favour.  After this the opposition started losing wickets and having been in a number of tight finishes before this season, it's always been runs on the board that has prevailed so felt it was now ours to lose.

The guy who replaced me had now bowled out so I came back on with the ball now dry, took the penultimate wicket (thanks to a very decent catch) and victory came when the last pair took a chance running 2 but a direct hit from quite some distance meant we won by 12 runs.

Great match played in a tremendous spirit.

Back to winning ways this week, bowled out the oppo for 101 in 27 overs and knocked it off inside of 16. Little 10* for me, brought up the finish with a 6 so at least that's something!

We played awful yesterday against bottom of the league and have now well and truly stuffed up any chance of winning the league.

We got put in on an absolute motorway, i mean the sort of batting pitch you dream about, hard, straw coloured with no grass on it at all. Then 1 by 1 proceeded to get ourselves out and limped to 178-8  :o :( I thought the wicket was worth at least 75 more. To be fair the oppo bowled well and bowled 37 overs of spin which a lot of our guys didn't know what to do with. I got out LBW to the 1 and only seamer for 15.

They cruised to the total taking no risks to get them 3 down in 40 overs.

I really don't know what it is but what have lost 3 games this year and they have been against the bottom 3 teams!

Played for the ones yesterday due to loads on hols etc

Absolute joke of an away ground
Beautiful spot in a lovely village, but absolutely no ground work done
Outfield grass was a foot long,(they decided to cut it ten minutes before the start of play? And killed the mower)
Wicket was covered in moss etc and soft as anything,(they had also killed the roller, and it was stuck on the wicket?)

Anyway

They put themselves in to bat, and took their many! Chances and posted 330 ish

We didn't get close, can't remember what I got, but managed to gift a wide one straight to extra cover .doh
And I fielded like an old chap

Was it live or dead moss? Our oppos pitch was cover in live moss on a length... Seriously scarify it!!!

Posted 176-9 yesterday. The oppo chased it down with about 7/8 overs to spare.
Batted 9, didn't get a bowl despite being told (patronizingly) to "keep loose" for about 30 overs.

Game canceled today as we had 3 late drop outs this morning.

Makes me wonder why i bother.

Lost again yesterday, 2nd duck on the bounce for me.
Can't wait for the season to end now, new club & new challenge on the cards for next season (I'm wishing I'd moved this year now but hindsight is a wonderful thing)

In contrast my season just getting going after a few good Twenties and thirties finally got 50 yesterday underneath the great settling of Alexandra palace in north London.

Great game we need one wicket in the last over, they needed 5 runs, ended a draw on a difficult pitch. Finished at 8pm and I hope we get some reduction in overs next year or change to limited overs win or lose
plenty of work still to do against the spinners, current.y practicing breaking the wrists for off side singles.

Team wise we need one more win to finish mid table in div  1 after promotion last year. That will be good for the seconds.
our first team thru to finals day in the Middlesex 20/20 with the winner taking home 500 quid!

Watching from the sidelines club won  to clinch the   Division with just  8 players on the pitch  yesterday. Also club  only lost one match all season.

Would have  been a good one to witness! We play against Dorchester in Sunday friendlies and that McComb guy always gets runs against us.

Yesterday we won easy. And kept pressure on top(there 8points clear and we have to play them yet).

We batted first and made 221.
I personally made 92 from 61balls. Slightly gutted as I opened, and there was still 29 overs left when I get out and was seeing it like a balloon.
A pre determined shot that end up with me being bowled hoicking across the line cost me. Oh well jug avoided

So as I departed we was 120 for 2 with 29 left. We ended up 221 all out from 40 overs.

Oppo then struggled to 92 all out from 30 overs.

Umpires and oppo all said I made the pitch look easy when it wasn't.
Me I'm not sure. Ball didn't seem to be doing much when I was out there.

I'll put it down to a purple patch. Since returning from injury I've had 4x 50s,  and 5 scores in the 30s across all formats( 5 of the 9 scores not out).

So pretty happy with how my season has gone.

Sat 349
Midweek 212.
Lms 307
Friendly 61

929 with 7 games left means I should finally top 1000 runs for a year.
Shame I missed about 12 available game while injured.

I know a few of the guys. Their opener (Adrian Redhead) is a very decent bat - we play against them on midweek T20 but these are in the next div down.
There are some decent players there though and nice ground (5 mins drive for me)
Would have been a fantastic game to watch  :D
