I'm looking for some new pads as my current pair are too big above the knee roll. I am very conscious of the tops of them sticking out (too much) when I bend my knees and a few times my bat has clipped them as I have been playing a shot. I do have a pair of keeping pads but I want the side protection that standard batting pads offer and I am also not keen on featuring on this forum's "Village" thread.

Any suggestion on brands to look at?

Interesting although it seems Aero don't make these anymore or at least my Googling didn't bring up any shops with these in stock. However I did find your thread from last year.

GN legend and supernova test have a compact top hat that's angled back to sit close to the thigh

Ton/SS pads generally have a smaller top hat, Aussie GN as well. Depends what level pad you want as well. Depending on your height small mens might be worth a shout, I can wear mens depending on brand but I generally wear small mens for less bulk.

This won't stop the umpire giving you out LBW when you have hit you know!

^ Where I play, people are genuinely curious about the pads. In the last match, I heard OP talking about Aeros v/s Moonwalkers. A good team will appreciate good gear. Villagers will be villagers. ;)

You don't necessarily need a smaller top hat , it just needs to be angled inwards .

Just a quick update. I tried a pair of small mens last night and the pad itself was a nice fit but the middle strap was far too short and didn't reach the buckle.

Afterwards I had a bowling machine session where I tried some different stances and found standing 2-3 inches more to the leg-side eradicated this issue. I like to bat very side-on but did try a more open stance (which is what a lot of modern coaches suggest) but it just doesn't work for me as I then tend to get squared up.  Side-on minimises my movements, I simply go forward or back. What was quite fun last night was setting up the machine to bowl slow but awkwardly straight pies then working on a few shots how to cash in on such filth. I may in future get caught or occasionally stumped but hopefully, I have eradicated being LBW (regardless of whether I've hit it or not).
