He's basically turned a heavy XP80 into a regular weight XP70?

Reducing a bat from 2-15 requires removal of a lot of wood. I am wondering what was the final weight of the bat.

Chris Lynn removed an inch off the toe of his "big bat" which resulted in a "Chris Lynn" profile - big bat with a smaller blade. I'd have done something like that if my XP-80 was too heavy for me.

@JPGavan, in your opinion, how would the balance of an XP80 change if you'd had removed the toe (by 1 inch) of the bat?

I know there are a few on here that don't like JPG, but he is living our dreams...... Would love to do what he does.

Need to win the lottery to get to do it!

From memory Lynny cut off a big from the toe before a Sheild game to remove some weight. He said it was about 1oz but it's probably not the preferred method of weight reduction.

By no means am I involved with GN but I think the XP80s were made from the heavier oversized clefts. The majority of them were around the same weight as the Kabooms and 50+s. So in theory GN would get in a batch of oversized clefts and separate them into heavy clefts and lighter clefts. The lighter ones can be made thicker for the same weight. The XP80s are really good in 2.9-2.11 weights but you can get 50+/Kaboom in 2.12 so that probably makes more sense if you're in the shop. From my experience the XP80s probably didn't sell that well (especially compared to 50+ and Kaboom) and at the $700ish price point there's maybe some better options despite the rare shape.

My XP80 is 2-10 fully dressed, with extra grip and anti-scuff sheet, it weighs 2-11.3. I think toe is weak but rest of it goes like an over-caffeinated monkey on a trampoline! The discounted price these days is probably the better price for an XP80. If I could get a heavy one, I'd remove the toe by an inch to get the weight down.

People who got 2-12 Warner are very lucky! I can't seem to find one in that weight. Lightest I got is 2-13+.

If someone is lucky enough to land a new 2017 Warner replica, they will see some differences in the bat.

40mm edge , 60mm spine , 5mm camber ? If thats the case , they may end up resembling the very original (circa 2010? 11? ) kabooms .

^ Can't imagine Warner using a bat with those specs...just doesn't feel right.

All done. https://www.facebook.com/JPGavan/photos/pcb.1814836361876499/1814836208543181/?type=3&theater

Neatly done. But what was the reason behind it? Meet the new bat specs and make it legal?
