Ashes prospect watch
« on: September 21, 2017, 12:52:53 PM »

With the penultimate round of Championship games underway, it appears people who may have been in consideration for a seat on the plane to Australia are picking up injuries.

Could this have an impact on the squad when it is announced?
The injuries I've seen so far today are:

Toby Roland-Jones
Unable to bowl due to a stiff back

Ben Duckett
Out for six to eight weeks with a broken finger

Haseeb Hameed
Retired hurt after getting struck on his right hand. (Previous injury was to his left hand)
Received lengthy on field treatment but was unable to hold a bat.

Broad has some heel issues as well like previous ashes trip and wood still out with ankle issues

Does hameed need a decent pair of gloves?
How would he of coped with the green pimple cotton ones?

Hands up who remembers those from school days?

Wore mind for years they were much preferred to the buky modern glove played against some seriously quick bowling but never had an hand or finger injury.

My first pair of 'gloves' as a kid. They must have been good, there was a picture of Sir Geoffrey on the box.

Hameed heroically trying to win the game for Lancashire. It not England though, so it doesn't matter.

Did anyone have the spiked gloves without palms? Actually, I'm not sure they could have been called gloves?

Update update: he's broken a finger.

But he'd already broken it before he went out to bat again?

Anyway, he's got a broken finger.

Without a doubt the fragmented nature of county championship has hindered our chances in the Ashes this season.

We need to start addressing bigger issues than "are we picking the right players?"

Are you sure senior? Seriously quick bowling with a pair of cotton gloves with some rubber dimples on? I faced Alex Tudor 2 season ago, not as quick as when he played for Surrey/England of course, but out of my 14 or whatever I got that day my gloves took a pounding. It was lifting off a length on a good track unlike the bounce I am normally used to.

After I was out I was glad of the protection from modern day gloves, they saved me from any broken digits..

Do you not think modern lightweight protection is better these days? It surely must be for us clubbies....

6 weeks for a break will take him to 6th November. More than enough time. Stop punching it use the fu king bat!

Toby R-J. out with a stress fracture of the lower back. I think he was nailed on for a place as a back up seamer in the Ashes squad.
Who goes alongside Broad, Anderson, Stokes and Woakes, in the pace bowling slot?
Can Mark Wood's foot injury heal in time to take the pounding of hard Aussie pitches (must eb a serious risk)
Finn, perhaps? But he has had a poor season up to the last match (by his standards). He does have experience, height and pace, though.

Where has jake ball gone? Presume he's injured.  Door has to be open for Finn I would think now
