Now that the sizes are restricted, did anyone observe or expect handles to get back to senior widths?..almost all brands since last few years had what you can call junior width handles which won't do with single grip for the average sized mens hand. My 5 months old SS ton handle recently broke two inches above the handle bottom and it was not a surprise with such a big bat and extremely thin handle. The fact that i added extra grip expectedly didnt strengthen the thin handle itself as opposed to having a thicker/stronger handle in the first place..

As I understand the new laws it's up to the leagues to determine if you can or can't use illegal bats. I imagine most have kept quiet to avoid annoying players or getting caught up with cost disputes. Not sure umpires will be armed with bat gauges either. Better to keep quiet and let old age take it's course. Not many cheating handle bats left.

GM have made bat gauges for umpires @ £5, wouldn't surprise me to see some umpires armed with them wanting to flout their new power.

Laver seemed very vocal on the matter trying to push the new rules through,  wouldn't surprise me if most of the companies using JS Wrights as willow suppliers also pushed it through as the new regs seem to be uncannily similar to the max measurements you can get out of a 'standard' cleft from them

I was told on Twitter by 3D sports that GM and Kook will not make a bat bigger than the new Reg's.......apparently they told them when they went to their shop.

I have had the same suspicion about the max bat size regulations. I was disappointed when James Laver started yammering about the cleft size in his facebook video. Never buying a Laver again that's for sure.

God bless GN AUS for making such amazing bats! If I could, I'd put Stu Kranzbuhler visage on $1 coin. What a great man!

I saw this in their catalogue. Cannot wait for certain Jobs-worth umpires in our league to measure everyones bat as they walk to the crease.....

The actual thickness of edge tape and scuff sheet is negligible; if you were to measure it with callipers I can't see it being over 0.1-0.3 mm maximum
If you had layered tape several times like Samit Patel has been seen to do then it may make more of an impact but I still can't see it making a major difference
The measurements of the GM Guage are exact to that of the new law, 40mm edge and 60mm spine allowing up to 67mm for a face camber

Dorset's got a point - scuff plus tape on both sides could easily add up to 1mm+ across a bat, plus allow for manufacturing tolerances on the gauge. Then the fact that you don't want a 40mm/60mm gauge, you want a gauge that a 40mm/60mm bat will fit through, there must should be some allowance in the gauges. Looks like the sensible bat nerd will be in need of a decent set of verniers! ;)

I’ve got a text from our secretary to say umpires are going on bat size regulations for 2018 and will be implementing new restrictions in our league
I asked him if he was joking and he said ‘no absolutely not joking’

I find this almost unbelievable
