Surrey, Notts and Lancs will all have a sniff - they always do.

Lancs would have quite the batting lineup in championship cricket.. Albeit a few could gain England honours.

I'd have him at Yorkshire tmro, but can't see them chasing him as I'd say they'd prefer to promote from within. But he's too talented to miss out on IMO

Northeast on his way to div 1 sharpish, England side before the end of the year. Mr Keeley had better get those CNC machines warmed up for when the bats get on tv!

Not sure he is that good but he's been tipped for the top since his schooldays. Whether he is ahead of Jennings,Hameed, westley(remember him?) living stone and Laurence I'm not sure

I have a friend who plays for Kent and I know Northeast is hugely rated. Big decision from him and a brave one, it can only of been done with an eye to get in the test side.

Surrey or Yorkshire maybe the best bet for that?

No point in Northeast going anywhere but a division 1 side. Yorkshire or Surrey surely leading the case

Cricinfo article says Notts or Hampshire are looking most likely right now.

As a Kent fan a massive loss to KCCC and with him gone and Billings no doubt missing a large part of the season when England have white ball cricket I can see them having a challenging year, plenty of young talent but little with a proven reputation now except Stevens, DBD and billings on the batting front.

I hope he does get an England call up as he has been churning out runs in all formats for years plus having now been a captain for a few seasons his maturity levels make him on paper an ideal candidate as also plenty of experience.

What does that mean?

Oh, I would too - we need competition for places in the top five as the existing Lyth, Lees, Leaning, Ballance, Kohler-Cadmore (plus whichever overseas) have gotten comfortable since YJB was moved to permanent England duty.  But we have Brook coming through, and as our CE pointed out, players good enough to get in our top five are usually intimidated by the absence of an obvious place to fill in it.

Brooks and Willey yes.  You could have had Hodd as well if you'd wanted.

But Plunkett and Kohler-Cadmore are Yorkshire born and bred.  The former was poached by Durham with more favourable Academy terms, the latter by a scholarship at Malvern College

Does that really count as promoting from within?
Not saying they don’t produce a lot of quality homegrown players, just that they’re not entirely adverse to signing players from the poorer counties.

I'd be amazed if Northeast went from Kent to Sussex - does nothing to get him the shop window he is hoping for in front of the selectors.
