Yep you could be right he could be being lined up as a replacement for Rashid (in red ball cricket).

Quite. Some fans think he's trying to improve his position with Warwickshire but I don't think I buy that view.

Now that the English white ball summer is over, will we see the likes if Rashid and Hales play some red ball cricket?
Hales especially needs time in the middle.
Surely bowling for Yorkshire would be good for Rashid.

I can't understand how the ECB invested so much time in developing a player of Moeen Ali's limited bowling ability whilst ignoring a far more talented bowler in Rashid. He has turned himself into one of England's best ever limited overs soon bowlers but he should have been a fixture in the test side, not giving up on red ball cricket all together

I think with Rashid giving up red ball cricket the penny's finally dropped that maybe he genuinely can't really be bothered with it, which could have something to do with him not doing as well in tests!

All they need is a couple of red ball games to be available for test matches Rashid as shown in white ball England need him to play he's a wicket taker after all who's the other frontline spinner besides Ali to turn it for England.

I think it is difficult to say that he hasn't done well in test cricket when he has never had a proper run in the side. If he had played 50 tests like Moeen Ali and was averaging 40 with the ball then it would be fair to say that he failed to make the grade

We've tried Rashid as a Test player and he proved ineffective in the longer format though.
It's all well and good picking up a few poles in a white ball game where the batsman have to go after you, but in Test matches batsman can afford to wait and hit the bad balls (of which Rashid bowls a fair few) without the pressure of needing to go after him from the get go.

Considering he's played 10 Tests (in spin friendly conditions) his average of 42 likely reflects fairly on him.

As for other frontline spinners:
Jack Leach?
Dom Bess?

Yes Rashid like most spinners can go for a few but he's also a wicket taker in tests would rather have him take 3 for 89 than a 0 for 40 end blocker.

Look at Rashid Khan�s figures for Afg in his first test!

It�s all well and good taking wickets when batsmen are coming at you trying to score it�s completely different having to earn your wickets!

Adil Rashid is a fantastic bowler when teams have to attack! When they don�t he is bang average!

I don't think that anyone would argue that Rashid should have been given a run as England's first choice spinner if Graeme Swann was around and bowling at his peak. The question is why he hasn't had more of an opportunity given that his career has coincided with England picking Moeen Ali as the first choice spinner in 50 test matches.

It isn't that Rashid has bowled so well in the 10 caps he has got that he should have been given an extended run in the side. It is that if England has invested the time in him that has been afforded to Ali the I feel the returns would have been far greater

Tricky isn't it.

Rashid has bundles of talent, and his test record is good enough that he could legitimately argue that he deserves a run in the team, and in most circumstances I would be arguing that he needed time etc.

But...there is something reductive about his attitude
I wonder to what extent he lacks the confidence to take the path less traveled. Does he like an easy life? He is certainly the only Yorkshire cricketer I have ever heard of who wanted to rest through a championship game!
