Anyone playing cricket with tennis elbow problems? How do you deal with it - longer recovery time or complete rest/therapy? Any tips and tricks on improving my situation?

i suffer with tennis elbow during the season but i cant stop playing. so its always there but i recover completely in off season. here are few tips though that work for me

i used have lot of pain when throwing the ball in fielding and due to that my throw wasn't great.  so i figured out that if i am using my shoulder and hip when throwing it doesn't put stress on elbow. it saves jerking the elbow joint and my throw has improved a lot as i more power into it due to using more muscles .

i avoid using laptop computer and mobile phones as when we work on them we don't have support under elbow. if you work on desk then get something to rest your elbow upon while using keyboard or mobiles.

i use some kinds wrap or band to put on elbow during match . i don't know how does it work but it certainly helps.

Avoid any jerking or pushing movements to avoid stress on elbow joint . If you go to gym warm up thoroughly before tricep workout or any other that involve elbow. i.e. shoulder, chest.

Have had tennis elbow on both arms  (and golfers once too) over the years from playing badminton.

If it doesn't get too bad you can rehabilitate completely. Last time it took about 4-6 weeks of doing the 'Super 7' exercises (shown in the youtube vids above or google super 7 tennis elbow).

The supports help for exercising but best to avoid using them when possible as they only mask the symptoms. The horse shoe shape ones are best (http://www.healthandcare.co.uk/golf-supports-accessories/T48001120203205.html like this) though all types need to be carefully positioned to work properly.

The pain is as a result of inflammation in the tendons so you need to remove the inflammation and strengthen the correct muscle groups. Normal procedures for removing the inflammation (though personally I wouldn't bother with anti-inflammatories as I don't think there is enough blood flow to tendons - others may know better). Start slowly with the exercises and only build as you can manage (slowly and only in such a way that you don't reintroduce inflammation (pain)). The exercises will promote healing - by getting blood flow to the injured tendons.

Takes a bit of time but if you are careful and dedicated there is every chance you can rehabilitate before the start of the season. Pay for a physio if you aren't good at self motivation. The £200 you'll pay to get someone to adjust your programme throughout may be worth it to be fit for the new season.

Good luck and keep at it even when you get slight setbacks during your recovery period - it happens to everyone.
