So whilst scrolling through eBay last week I came across some Newbery gear being sold as " new sponsor for next year" looked at the seller and then searched the name and turns out it was George Harding from Durham who played a bot of CC and white ball last season.
I asked if this was just an off the shelf and he replied no he was allowed to visit TK at his workshop with a couple of the more established 1st team players and have his bats made for him.
This is certainly different to the Newbery Triumph a lad at my club has. Firstly this is a duck bill toe, mid/high profile with slightly rounded face as opposed to the flat face on most Newbery bats and certainly the Triumph, very large counter weight at the top makes this feel like a tooth pick but weight is 2.93 with 40mm edge, 24mm toe and 22 shoulder so it's fairly large.
Performance wise it pings all over, just tapping up an old ball is silly how much power this packs.
Will need a bit of a clean up but with the amount of genuine Newbery stickers available that won't be too hard a job.
He even sent me a signed County championship shirt as well as a Durham player issue polo shirt which was very kind of him, never know he may make it big, let's hope so as seems a genuinely great character from the conversation we had on the phone.
Just thought I would share a few pics
