the blade on .CA  are shorter so the overall length of the bat is the same ..kudos USED to vary from my experience some had shorter blades some had longer handles and shorter blades
I'm very confident also that unless you measure the length of the handle you will never ever notice 1cm missing at all

yeah I can understand the longer handle...but unless you actually have hand on top of the handle when you grip the bat 1cm will never be noticed..imo

I hold bats right at the top of the handle, but when I had a go with Simon's SM Kookaburra the thing is struggled most with was the fact it weighed the same as a toothpick

just a light bat or you think it was due to 1cm from the handle??

I think the fact it was 8oz lighter than I normally use was more of an issue than 1cm off the handle

I have purchased the SM size bats from 3 different off the shelf brands and found that all of them were substantially thinner than standard SH bats. Yes, they were lighter and slightly shorter than the standard SH but the compromise in volume was way too much for me. I ended up returning all the 3 and got them replaced with SH bats.

It could be different if the bat is custom made to the specifications.

That's my experience as well for custom made short bats - I have written about it in the past - which is why I switched to size SH bats. I tried it with different bat makers and only Laver got the balance right for a size-6 bat weighing 3.0 pounds. I was told that it was an exceptional piece of willow (could be a Signature that was cut down).

Over the past few month I have a few conversation about purchasing a SM bat (for my lad), only really because they are so cheap compared to a standard short handled bat. I contacted a retailer in oz who sell an xxx8 SM for a fraction of the price of a standard SH xxx10. Was told that the blade widths are 105mm and the quality of the willow was not as good as the Standard SM. They also only went up to 2.6. In the end it was cheaper for me to buy a 2.10 xp70 and chop 15mm off the bottom. So he has now got a SMs full width 2.9.

Why do the manufacturers think a SM would want a child's bat. Surly they should produce full width super short blades as a SMs bat.
