To be fair when sides provide their own umpires you're effectively playing no LBWs anyway. That's the joy of having neutral panel umpires, it eradicates that particular quirk of cricket

When I umpire, I give every decision as I see it. Why wouldn't you? You are cheating if you don't. I'm not interested in winning games of cricket by cheating. Anyone who is, is a (No Swearing Please).

I totally agree with you mate.
Unfortunately plenty of others don't see it that way.

Does a victory not feel hollow when you've cheated to get there? I'd have thought so, but what do I know anyway...

Agreed

However, as we know most players and teams will happily use ‘gamesmanship’ to win or blatantly cheat. Winning is their only priority and it’s where a lot get their entire enjoyment from

Granted it was a friendly so I might’ve acted different in a league game but, I opened in one friendly game and got out fifth ball so umpires most of the innings and I gave my teammate out LBW because he was boring me silly and I was in a terrible mood so the above statement isn’t totally true!! And in another friendly game I gave a teammate out LBW because he gave me out in a league game a few weeks before even though I hit it so I stopped liking him for a while! Basically I hate my teammates.

Midweek league. There's barely enough umps for premier. So we certainly Don't get many I'm division A.

One week, guy puts foot down track, hits his pads. We half appeal and go back to our marks.
Batsmen wondering off muttering under his breath.
Look and umPires got his finger up. We just all started laughing.

Was first lbw we got since we joined the league in 2010! Nobody was expecting it, not sure it was even close......

I genuinely couldn’t bear to play in the leagues you're all describing.

Of course when providing your own umpires you’re going to get a few less LBW decisions, but if it’s hitting all three then it’s got to be given out. What’s the point otherwise?

There’s a couple of umpires in our league that rarely give lbw’s so when you’re given you know you’re plumb. I respect that and walk off, the others raise their fingers on the strength of the appeal

I rarely get down about losing a game of cricket. I often get down about the way a game of cricket has been played.

I get down about not having the effect on a game of cricket that I’m capable of, if I don’t play as well as I can for the team it makes me angry. I love to win and hate to lose, anyone who takes a loss easily shouldn’t be playing team sports

There's an umpire in our league who is known as Trigger.
You pencil in a couple of LBWs and a run out when you see he's due to be at your game  :(

I try my hardest to win. That's all you can do. But I have no interest in winning by cheating.

Accepting defeat graciously is not the same thing as lying down and giving in.

Completely disagree... A lot of us are unfortunately not lucky enough to earn a living from these team sports. For me a game of cricket is testing myself but more about enjoying a few hours with my mates. Naturally I want to win but if we don't I've still got work on a Monday morning so it's a shrug of the shoulders and onto the next week.

I’m unfortunately not built like that, every single game I play be it with one of my children in a board game, a game of squash with one of my mates or a game of cricket with my mates. I’ve got a will to win with all of them. If you haven’t got a level of competitiveness when It comes to a close game you are going to roll over and give in!! I’ve gone in with 30 to get off 2 overs in cup games and done it because I always believe that there is a way to win. If I was indifferent then we would probably have lost those games
