Think it's more the number of T20s that Root actually plays in.  He's the same age as Williamson and a year younger than Smith, yet Williamson has played over twice as many T20s as Root and Smith has played nearly 3 times as many.

Root has got everything going for him. Overseas players in the IPL are also about how marketable they are. And Roots the England Captain. He has a good T20 average and importantly is a great player of spin. Unlike Roy and Hales who have missed out before due to this reason. The other thing in Roots favour is he has started his price at 1.5 crore below a lot of others.

This was the point I was trying to get across. What will help him though is that almost 40% of his (only) 25 T20I's were played in India.

Full IPL 2018 Auction Players List is out - some interesting names and base prices in there.

http://www.financialexpress.com/sports/ipl/ipl-auction-2018-players-list-out-ravichandran-ashwin-ben-stokes-priced-at-rs-2-crore-check-all-names/1023303/

Archer and Short are in there and are very low priced indeed considering BBL form.

Archer will get 400k+ - will be interesting to see what he decides to do. Qualify and play for England or go around the world playing t20 cricket. He’s West Indian so I assume he’d go for the money

If Tymal Mills was worth £1.4million then i dread to think how much Archer is genuinely worth!

Interesting exercise, out of the marquee players who would be your top 3 picks.
Ben Stokes, Mitchell Starc, Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Yuvraj Singh, R Ashwin, Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan, Glenn Maxwell, Ajinkya Rahane, Harbhajan Singh, Joe Root, Shakib Al Hasan, Faf du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo and Kane Williamson.

My top 3:
1. D. Bravo
2. M. Starc
3. B. Stokes

Fawad Ahmed and Alex Carey are cheap too. Henriques asking top dollar for some reason.

I think it's going to be a really interesting auction.

With CSK and RR back and there are lots of interesting RTM's floating around for the teams to possibly use.

Some random pricing and some very good unknowns coming through has meant bargins out there. Eg. Munro is only 50 lakhs

Add to that for the 1st time they are mixing in the uncapped players on the 1st day so the teams are going to know alot better where there squad is at early doors.

I'm still not sure how I feel about these T20 leagues but I hope Root and the English lads get picked up, I think it did Stokes's game the world of good going last year.

It is the players who set their base price isnt it?

Yep it is the players who set it. The choose a price out of the following levels - min 50 lakh, 75, 1 core, 1.5, max 2 core.

Then the player is put into a category of either marquee, batsman, allrounder, wk, spinner or fast bowler.

Then they are either capped or uncapped and also overseas.

Everyone goes into the auction in blocks of 8-10 in their respective categories no matter what base price they are.

I'm surprised more don't set their base price low.

50 lakh (the minimum base price for an overseas) is £56k. I'd settle for that for 6 weeks work, which would likely involve rubbing shoulders with the great and the good, having nets, mixing drinks and warming the bench!

Not sure their counties would be so impressed.  As a Yorkshire fan, I think having five players potentially away for half the first class season give or take is ridiculous.

Absolutely , the ECB seems to have a different attitude  to the IPL now rather than the problems with KP over it..actually you could say Pieterson paved the way a bit to let players play in it

Root it's announced as predicted he is resting some of the NZ tour, the T20 games

It’s hardly resting a player missing a couple of t20’s is it?
