Having not played since I was 18, I've turned out for my wife's work team for a couple of games and really enjoyed it (took a while to get back into the swing of things....my 1st over was 10 balls long!). A combination of a couple of decent knocks (albeit against limited oppo) and my son showing some aptitude with both bat and ball, I've decided to get back into cricket and join a club next season.
As with most of my other pursuits I'm a bit of a gear fiend, so my circa '96 Peak Sports red stripe pads/gloves and a borrowed bat don't cut the mustard! I've been lurking on the forum looking for tips for the past few months, so thanks for all the info. Picked up a Ton butterfly which seems great, plus a used GN dynadrive (used to have one back in the day) from eBay and a Newbery seven academy bat (I'm 5"8 and the dynadrive felt a bit heavy). Stealth accumulation of bargain pads, gloves and other protection will hopefully see me ready for winter nets next month....just need to sort out the dodgy hip, back and tennis elbow!
