Anyone else have an opinion on the gn test opener lid? Does it weigh a ton?I tried the sports direct masuri but my chin felt a bit exposed- and I don't have a Jimmy Hill chin either,merely an ordinary,medium-sized chin....
Quite like the test opener lookswise and I fancy myself as a bit of a kane Williamson!

I think the GN test opener lid is pretty decent. The visibility is better than both the Shrey and Masuri OS2 in my opinion. Not light by any means but comfortable enough. A good choice at a reasonable price. The titanium GN one is better weight wise (of course) but also an extra £100.

The Gn definitely suits/fits the person with the longer face

Shrey only copied the design off Masuri in the first place didn't they ;) No requirement for fixed grilles in the new standard afaik, there's loads out there with removable as well. I'm sure Tomtek could tell us more but from what's been made publicly available the only requirement is to pass the impact tests, and manufacturers have interpreted that by removing the ability to adjust the grille as the test would always be carried out with the grille in its' weakest position (ie widest gap), so there's no benefit to having adjustment.

Looking for a new lid.  Currently, using a GN junior but I am finding that the distance between the grill and peak is narrow making it difficult to follow the ball.  Going to move up to a senior helmet in small/medium size and looking at the GM Purist Geo or the Masuri mentioned.

Question on the new standard, which my quick Google search did not yield any answer.  What is the maximum distance between peak and the grill?

Sure Tom or DorsetDan will be able to tell you that - both well informed chaps.  Be careful however if you're a junior, as the senior helmets I believe (some in any case) are only tested using senior balls.

I think the max distance 55mm.
I have found that you have to pull the peak quite a way down compared to a older lid.

@stevat, @Buzz, @DorsetDan

Thanks for the information.  Need senior helmet but my head is peanut size and that was the reason that I ended up with junior helmet.  Local shops do not have that many options in sizes or brands.

Basic rule of thumb with new Masuri lids - have the swoppa band on your eyebrows!
It may seem a bit foreign at first if you're used to an old style lid, but you soon get used to it
