Newbery Blitz cricket bat
« on: February 09, 2018, 06:17:34 PM »

Hi,
I came across a cricket bat recently that had the labels removed. You could tell by the imprint of the stickers that it was a 'Newbery Blitz'. I'm trying to work out the price of it new. It looked like it had six grains. The only label that remained was the little "Hammer Edge" sticker on the blades face, and a black sticker on top of the handle that said "England, Newbery, Type A", with a big green "S" in the middle of the sticker. I thought the "S" may have stood for Short Handle but this was a long handle bat (handle measured 12.5 inches).

Any ideas on the model, or on the price it would've been new?
Thanks.

S would mean short handle - the Blitz is a shorter blade/longer handle model, with the whole bat being the same length as a standard short handle, which is increasingly common. Not sure on price but think they've mostly only been done in two grades, one pretty expensive and one mid range? Someone will know I'm sure.

@nad12

I don't suppose this bat was on Gumtree by any chance? If so I had a good look at it today and nearly bought it.

It was apparently bought directly from the Newbery shop at the end of the 2015 season, and was unstickered when purchased. Buyer had Blitz stickers added as that's what he liked, and it does have a shoulder stamp.

It is indeed long handle with standard blade, and I would say it was 5* or players grade.

Felt fairly decent but I didn't buy it as was too heavy for me. The guy selling it seemed very decent so if you are interested get in touch and make him an offer.

Thank you for your comments.
Yes, it was. I’ve been in touched and the chap seems really pleasant and helpful. It’s now sold and on its way to me.
