Had my first indoor net of the new season and to be fair was totally brutal. Will not discuss my batting which was pretty embarrassing despite my blank bats t20 bat. Can�t review bat yet as I didn�t hit many! Bowling was even worse sure it wasn�t right length as kept bowling full tosses. At end of session I bowled a few seamers with a bit more success. I know lots of players move from seam to spin but has anyone moved from spin to seam? I�m in my late 30s and bowled spin for almost 20 years but bowled a seam as teenager. Like most clubs we have plenty of medium pacers hence sticking with spin makes sense just to give a bit of variety. Or I should give up bowling and focus on my batting which err could do with some work.

I took a year off from bowling to concentrate on my batting and now I am back at it again. I switched from right arm off spinner to left arm medium pace bowling. I thought my batting was suffering because of how much effort I was putting toward my bowling, therefore I decided to take a year off and acted as a sixth/seventh bowler and mostly focused on my batting.

If it was easy they'd be more spinners than seamers

I bowl legspin and mix it up with seam in the nets just for a bit of variation. I rarely use seam in a game. Last time I used it was when they only needed a few runs to win with two wickets left and their batter would step in front of his stumps so I bowled seam around the wicket to cramp him up and maybe a lbw. It worked to a degree but the still won.

Anyway we all have bad days at the office. Just go with what feels best for you.

My problem has always been I�m a passable opening bat, spinner, keeper and seamer but not proficient in any discipline. A classic case of jack of all trades master of none!When I went to move clubs two years ago one club wanted to sign me as their keeper the other as their 1st choice spinner. Ironically in the two games against the club who wanted me to keep I got 8 wickets as a spinner!!

@Jaffa you are prob right just a bad day at office indoor nets not exactly off spin friendly but does help when you bounce it!

There's a guy at the club I play for who just does what he wants. Sometimes it's seam, sometimes he spins it off, sometimes he just drags it down doing bugger all.

Whatever you bowl you'll probably get somebody out!

I wouldn't give up 20 years of bowling spin just because you had one bad net.

Sounds like you're being a bit hard on yourself, just relax, if you've been good enough as a spinner for the last 20 years then that's not going to desert you overnight!

It all depends on how good a spinner you were in the first place. If you have never really enjoyed bowling spin, then a switch might not be a bad thing.

There is precedent for this. Craig White started off as a spinner - not even a very good one - but became a seriously rapid pace bowler, possibly the fastest ever to play for England.

Maybe due to off season, without realising it, your grip has changed so the seam is coming out differently.

I had something similar happen to me so I bought some of the red/white balls so I could see what was happening a little better.

Could have also been a knackered ball. No seam, been knocked out of shape so it's out of balance. Sometimes you can blame the tools. I can't bowl offspin but I flip the ball up like a offspinner to see if the seam stays upright.
