Just a bit of advice,,, I�ve peed about with sanders for years now, I even got a festool.
But just got a dewalt random orbital, absolutely love it, 2.5mm orbit so leaves a decent finish, has good dust extraction and a balance weight to stop excessive vibration
100 quid or thereabouts
Highly recommended if your finishing bats

Interesting to hear that. As I wait for willow to arrive, I've been practicing on some older pine that I have laying around. A good way to test the tools, as well as the shaping, sanding and polishing technique.
I've just got a 125mm random orbital sander, and like what it does, but can only find papers for it up to 240 grit. From memory, you sand a lot higher than that, so what do you use?
I was looking in a hardware shop and can only find over 240 grit in sheets of wet and dry, but am a bit wary of using it on timber for some reason.

Nice collection!

Mine is a Ryobi so it sounds like I'll be buying again

, however it does have a dust extractor and variable speed, so we'll see how it goes, and how serious I get with the bat making caper.

If I can get half the finish that you do, I'll be more than pleased!
