manged to complete our game today despite a couple of rain breaks and covers on over lunch.
Oppo won the toss and decided to bowl on a good deck ( our home ground is a bit of a road) after last weeks super weather. Looked to be a good shout as both openers looked solid. Just started to rain lightly and there opener was undone but a great nut swung late and off stump back by me.
Then first rain break for 60 mins. Luckily we had spoke with Oppo and had agreed to start early due to chance of rain. After the rain break our opening pair back refreshed nipped our 3 quick wickets all bowled. Then a good stand between 5&6 put on a healthy partnership of 80 odd, including a lovely 25 odd from a young lady who plays for Essex ladies and she was solid until
Trying to up the rate in the last 10 overs. Next over the other set bat went leaving them 125-6 with 10 overs left. They manged to finish on 147-9 and almost shut up shop which was weird as mine really showed an intent.

Another shower at lunch

After lunch we started well with myself and opening partner putting on 75, him on 60 me on 10. Started really slow.
Managed to knock it off after 26 overs only 2 down, with another bit out for myself 53 this week following 48 not out last week. Shame I’m now not about for 3 weeks due to family commitments and a long weekend away over the coming bank holiday.
Enjoying the season now it’s finally started.
Only down side is manged to totally split the webbing on my keeping gloves completing a diving run out so need to
Replace those, nice to go shopping 😁

just been sent these photos of where we are playing on Saturday - it's an away game against a side that have just been promoted to Div 1 they play at a Council owned ground, so they had to cut and roll and mark etc... today! after it chucked it down yesterday. I hope we win the toss!

@Red Ink Cricket - this is at Willen - we are playing Westcroft.

Our 3s play at Willen, it's one of the better council pitches but even so we wouldn't play anything higher than 3rd team cricket on. Four counties need to look at their standards if you play div 1 on this.

When we turned up last Saturday they had actually cut another strip next to it but it was still awful as I said in my post about the game.

There are 2 clubs that don't have there own grounds that play in division 1 and they are both shocking.

Can’t believe I knocked 65 from 30 balls today and felt inadequate

We were put into bat then scored 401-3 154 for opener 134 for number 4 then 65 for me on flattest track I’ve ever seen

Bowled them out for 150 to round off a good day

After last week's economical if unspectacular bowling figures, I was again invited to open the bowling and this time picked up 5-32 off my full 12 overs against one of my former clubs. However, a combination of wayward bowling and good batting took the opposition total to 222 all out off 40.2 overs. One of their juniors (may actually be 19-20 now?) scored his maiden half-century with some lovely shots off his legs whilst their skipper (who has dropped down some divisions and bats low down the order) punished anything loose.

This gave us 49 overs to bat but we never really looked like overhauling this target and I eventually went in at No.8 (with 10 overs to go) to ensure we batted out. This I was doing quite nicely until there were 4 balls of the match remaining when the non-striker called for a suicidal run and I barely made it half way down the wicket.  I was friggin furious although he did apologise afterwards but explained he wanted to get down the batting end as we only needed 10 runs for 90% of the opposition's score. Unfortunately we didn't get those 10 runs but no more wickets fell either so we ended up with a draw.

8 runs in 3 games wasn’t the start to the season I wanted.

But finally
Got a decent score today. Battled few a good start by the openers before the bad balls started to arrive.  And made my way to a nice 43.

Which ended up being top score. Us 180 all out and then we bowled oppo out for 122 all out.we did have them 1 for 3 after the first 5 overs! Ball was hoping about.

Two  games in and we are doing ok.

Last week we played Bledlow Village 2s who missed out on promotion by 1 point last year. Despite missing 5/6 first choice players we fought our way to an honourable draw. We had them 100 odd for 6 but thanks to some sloppy fielding we let them get 224-8. In reply we were 172-3 before a rush of wickets and a climbing run rate meant we finished on 208-7.

This week weather beat us. We got to 139-7 off 41 before it tipped down. Our innings stuttered along , not helped by a slow deck and outfield. Got ourselves to 40-1 then we're 46-4. I steadied things somewhat with 14 before playing inside a straight one just as I was getting going. We then slipped to 73-7 before eventually recovering, thanks to the slippy ball and our 1st team batter. I fancied out chances of getting 180, which was a lot of runs on our wicket but weather best us. Shout out to @golders , looking very composed with the bat so far opening up. Big score round the corner.

Personally would like our 3s to go into the cherwell as the pitches at the lower levels are still much better than the four counties. Better wickets breed better cricketers. However the argument about travelling crops up and hence they stay in the four counties.

Easy win yesterday but it was hard to score runs wicket was soft  and damp but true not may fours along the ground the grass was long and slowed the ball down. One of our bowlers took 5 wickets for 6 runs in 4 overs.
Opened the batting scored nought lost sight of  the ball in my new helmet grill the ball cannoned of by bat onto my pads and hit the leg stump.
Must sort out helmet with clear vision before next Saturday.

We managed 14 overs of a local derby vs Lindfield yesterday. Rained the entire time. We had them 58/3 off those 14 before it got too wet and we spent more time playing football than cricket- keep ups got very competitive as anyone who lost a round had to buy a jug at club quiz night.
Got a local derby today for Firle vs Glyndebourne, so hoping to get a bat and a bowl today.

It started raining today as soon as the umps called 'play' and didn't stop until it was called off

So 13 runs last week u till I was run out by my non running partner and a DNB today

When is ok to start worrying:

You are bang out of form
The ground is too wet to score any runs
Pitches are too slow
My new socks are not the right type
I'm going to slip down the order
My bat no longer feels right in the hands
The oppo might not turn up for the next game due to an outbreak of flu

Or.....just smash anything off straight next time and not think about it?

 :)
Or just don't worry and think can't wait for for next week.

Game off! It's dry here today - so far at least - but it turns out our oppo played through the rain yesterday and ruined their tracks! Another boring Sunday in prospect, no doubt doing lots of little jobs for the boss...

Won by 25 today,

I hit 7 not out in a 25 run stand to get us to 200 then took 3-25 off 6.4 on an absolutely perfect wicket, good carry even bounce seam and spin yet can score runs! Big thanks to our groundsman @Maverick79 for getting it in such good order!

Got a win in with Firle over Glyndebourne in a game featuring many Christies, one captaining Firle and three for Glyndebourne.
We got put in on a damp pitch, batted five. First five balls went 0,2,2,0,6 with a solid hit from the B3 going straight over the bowler. Afterwards I sliced a couple over extra cover, going slightly hard with the ball not coming on fully, but was pulling and driving well generally, in position earlier but having to wait for the ball. We got 166 from our 35 overs, I retired on 52 from 38 balls with just under two overs left.
When we bowled, I kept for most of the innings as nobody else besides my brother could. Ran out one of the Christies with a direct hit when they tried to pinch a leg bye into the leg side. Bowled 3 overs, 0/11, then kept again at the end. Come the last over Glyndebourne needed 5, number 7 clipped it to T Christie at mid wicket, who threw it to me to run out I Christie (his nephew), given out by P Christie, brother of I.
