Flat face vs round face
« on: March 23, 2018, 01:07:09 PM »

What have you guys noticed as the main differences? To me, flat faces pick up a little worse, slightly slower bat speed (less aerodynamic) and cause more vibration on off centre shots.

Pick up worse, really? I wouldn't even be sure a flat faced bat would be better aerodynamically than a round faced one, the back of the bat will be much more significant than the front. (and even then will make sod all difference!)

Contact will feel a bit cleaner off-centre with a rounder face as the ball is glancing off slightly rather than spanking straight into a flat face, which can help you out a bit at times. Personally feel like it's a little easier to manoeuvre the ball about with a round face, a little easier to hit dead straight with a flat one.

To be honest the biggest difference is flat faced bats are much more susceptible to edge damage, more knocking in time required if the edges are dead square.

Completely flat faces I find to not perform as well and also the edges and toe
Damage easier.

My preference is a semi flat face with rounded edges and toe, these perform the best imo

In terms of looks, I like the bigger edges and square toe of the flat face bats

Personally I find flat face bats pick up poorly too.

My personal preference is i like square bats with sharp edges and a flat toe with a mid to high middle to aid pick up and thats where my bats tend to crack.

I like square toe because it makes it look wider and i like square edges not boned either to make the bat look bigger to give my confidence even though i know there no real difference.

If i can still play all the shots after a hour solid on the machine without my arms falling off and keep the consisatncy of shot and not impeded by weight then it a keeper if not it a gonner thats more important to me really.

I'm not big into flat or rounded i just like my bats to feel big and light.

Pick the bat up, does it feel good? Does it say runs?
Great. Go and use it.

It’s honestly down to personal preference, rounds face for me as I can place and time the shots better, flat face better for hitting. I can play with both

@Buzz that logic is why my wallet is so empty these days, and why there is a room full of bats in the house

To be honest the logic is flawed.

It should be
Buy a bat think it is great but get doubts as it might be too heavy so buy a different bat. Decide that the middle position is wrong with this bat and get a third. But you try and change the handle set up because it doesn't feel right and then you loose confidence in that too. But because it is still March you haven't used any of them yet. Then you see a bargain on ebay so buy that but it is a plank. So you have a pre season cbf sale so you can fund your NEW 2018 MATCH BAT. which you buy from your local pod shaver, but decide after a week and your first net that it is a bit hard.
So by the first game you use your old bat.

Edit, clearly I could have gone on through another 4-5 bats. And we haven't discussed you net bat or your wet weather bat.

Round face is the only way to get the max out of the MCC bat gauge  :o
