James Vince seems to be a man on a mission today...62 from 55 balls.

This time of year is when the rule of Visitors when the toss can really make a difference.

That pitch at Lords is crazy.

Rocking up to Lords as a Middlesex player knowing that you are going to be put in on that must be interesting!

Fair play if he wants to make it for England.

To be fair Surrey are playing some students! But he owes the club a good season.

Not long ago Borthwick was being touted as a prospective England no.3. Not least on here.

Popped in for an hour today. His bat sounded sweet, even in the freezing cold.

I think , I'm not sure to be honest thou, we got success as a leggie in that England took note

But he is a batsman first to my knowledge and always was really. We have persisted with spin as a part time thing for ages,

I've always thought myself it's more specialist like Swann,Panesar,Edmunds,Embury etc

So if your picking a spinner you need a real wicket taker.

Only because that's all that's been available? T20 and the subsequent unhelpful scheduling of champuinship cricket is killing spin bowling, in my opinion. Seems like it might get worse too.

Borthwick was a bowling all-rounder and has re-invented himself as a batsman who bowls a bit. When he and Stoneman came to Surrey, I think I am rght in saying, it was Borthwick whom people had the greater expectations of.
