Has an outfielder ever got man of the match while his batting has been poor in a game??

Jennings deserves it this game!!

Also 4th innings mo has rocked up.

I know there is some luck involved at short leg but some of these catches are outstanding. do we keep him in for his fielding?

Compton used one after GN but just before he was dropped.

Lathwall was a gifted player perhaps the modern game was not for him. But gifted he was. Probably ran up all sorts of records in the West Country and does some coaching I think.

I meant the particular (now) retro stickets.

whatever you might think of the strength of the Sri Lankan team, winning 3-0 away from home is pretty impressive in the modern game, and it is impressive that everyone contributed to one extent or another.

absolutely

we won in India 2-1 and in Karachi in the days, then back in SL way back in the 90's

this is up there with our best performances.

I think myself a specialist keeper has shown what  difference it can make to the team, Stokes has been brilliant and all 3 spinners have contributed, Rashid in the first innings here.

also Root has had his best series skippering by a long way.

Really enjoyable test series that was! Might have been a whitewash in the end but the games were well-contested, thought the pitches were good and the matches mostly played at a pretty good pace.

Lots of England players came out heavily in credit, looking forward to the Windies series!

bailiff confirmed Foakes will be keeping that tour. got to be the way forward.

the openers were ok I thought. maybe more time needed to settle down as far as Burns goes.

woakes did not get a game either on this tour

I reckon there is actually noone who has come out in debit - even the quicks did what they could in the circumstances.

The idea of a specialist keeper is obviously a good one when they are going to spend so much time up to the stumps - personally, unless Foakes struggles with the bat I'd have one anyway as the true specialist is worth 15 runs an innings (and there is no point knackering Jonny's knees unneccessarily).  You'd assume one of the spinners makes way for a second opening bowler for two Tests in the West Indies, with probabaly only one spinner needed in the other.  Interesting to see what the pecking order is amongst the three...for me, it has to be Ali and Rashid that are the either/or as neither of them is quite accurate enough to tie down an end when that is required.

You can only beat what's in front of you (a pathetically weak Sri Lankan team).

For once, they actually got the team selection vaguely correct. Three front-line spinners. A few years ago we'd have gone in with Ali + a part-time roller like the totally useless Dawson and got absolutely pumped.

strategy too - they had worked out how they were going to score runs and where they could apply pressure.

you have a point but rather than concentrate on the opposition, in their own conditions, own pitches and with the wickets in their favour...or so we thought.....let's give a lot of credit to this team for winning 3-0
