As a leggie, simply awesome to see an England leg spinner take 5 in a test. Inspiring.

Interesting stats looking at this series. So far.

Lots still believe rashid hasn’t bowled well this series. Root doesn’t trust him blah blah.

Leach has 14 at 22.3
Ali has 14 at 24
Rashid 12 at 22.08.

Rashid has actually bowled 34 overs less than leach This series.
And with the better strike rate of the 3(rash 40. Ali 42, leach 48). He could have had a lot more had root given him a bigger part to play.

Or are we still as a forum saying Rashid isn’t good enough? And all 3 spinners haven’t really done that well(remember an avg under 30 is meant to be world class and all 3 spinners are in an away series here.......)

Rashid is great at some things but would struggle as a sole front line spinner - even as a luxury player last Summer he slipped in and out of games. But if we feel we can afford two...

I think there has been a very conscience effort to use each spinner for a specific role to start with. Then if that doesn't work, then change it up.

Leach has been used as a containing spinner and has bowled from the start to stem run flow.

Rashid has been used to bowl aggressively to take wickets and at the lower order to clean up.

Mo is probably a mixture of both.

I actually think Root has done a pretty good job mixing up 3 spinners because that's difficult giving them all overs and knowing who to bowl when on a turning pitch etc...

I hope so. He'll need to adapt his technique I think.

Just watched the highlights. Jennings looks so natural in short! Goes with the shots but manages to keep his eyes on the ball - brilliant

Rory Burns will be absolutely chuffed Jennings has made that spot his own  :D

Are you telling me that we don't need 5 seamers in Asia? I'm not convinced

Happy for Rashid and another feather in the cap of Ed Smith.

Interesting how we used to pigeon-hole successful Test players into the one day sides - Cook, Trott etc. Now we are taking very successful limited overs players - Butler, Rashid - who have proved themselves in pressure situations in big matches and asking them to adapt their skill set for the longer format. Roy is obviously one they want to try next with his inclusion in the Lions Red ball matches.

Foakes just took one to the little finger. Which looked battered(probably previous injuries all keepers hands are battered)

I’d love England to give the gloves to Buttler if he has to go off, just to see bairstow a face......

Johnny will burst a vein if that happened.  I really used to like his spirit but lately I feel he has turned into me first instead of team first guy.

He needs to learn from Butler (openly admits his keeping is below par compared to Foakes and happy to just play), Foakes (had no issues being replaced in the team if the gloves were given back to Johnny after an outstanding game) and Ali (the ultimate team men, who gets taken advantaged off his flexibility).

Was I the only one who noticed Foakes had an extra guard on the offending pinkie finger, as well as wearing what can only be Jos Buttlers lads for the latter part of the day. (Nerd Alert)

Would suggest he’s had that issue a while so probability of him being alright is high, I guess the only thing is if it’s doubtful management might pull him just because of the fact they have options. Can’t see him being keen to do that tho!

Foakes is the best gloveman  in  county cricket and as been for a while but is he the best keeper batsman can he score runs like Bairstow  in all conditions around the world.
As for Moeen excellent team man who said  he wanted a shot at 3.

Another good performance by us helped by some unfathomable no balls from the spinners. I get the medium pacers overstepping as they strain for extra pace, spinners....I just don't get it.

Foakes again with a handy knock and Butler played really well.

Kit watch- Leach with retro M and H design aka Micheal Bevan 90's style. looks a beautiful bat. Warm cuddly memories of hours spent outside the sports shop looking in after school.
