Does anyone use a middling bat?
« on: October 31, 2018, 11:58:20 AM »

Just wondering if any of you guys use one in nets? Looking into getting something along these lines, any recommendations? Cheers

I use one every now and then if i feel im not finding the middle well.
My only suggestions would be get one made with the same type of handle on your match bat ....and try to get it in the same weight range . For me there's no point using one if it weighs 2.2 and throws your timing off.

Interestingly (or not) one of my club mates (who scores all the runs) just takes the stump out of the ground and uses that if he thinks he isn't middling everything.

Agree with the Bigs! If you use a 2'10 in the middle, ensure the middling bat is around 2'10!
And don't worry about the ping or quality. The whole idea is to practice finding the middle of the bat....not to get boundaries.
Mine weighs 2'10 so there are some heavier ones around.

Please note: These bats are currently only offered in Kashmir willow. Bat weights will vary – at present we are unable to accommodate specific requests for weights.

The above would put me off unless they could give an idea of weight range! Imagine if they send you 2'5 and you wanted a 2'12! Not good unless they can at least get within a couple of ounces?
If they can get within a couple of ounces, then you can add an extra grip and a scuff sheet and toe guard to add a bit more weight.

Thing is with middling bats... if you can't  find the middle on your grown-up bat, what makes you think you can find it on one half the size?   ;)

Mate of mine has one that’s only about 2 lbs, with 10oz of lead taped on the back, spread out to give a decent enough balance.

Given it’s still got 40mm edges to get the weight to 2lbs, it goes well enough to give you an idea of if you’ve timed it.

Might be a solution if you can pick one up cheap?

Exactly what I've done to make mine, took a bandsaw to an old bat with a broken toe and made up the weight with lead on the back. Goes like a train with all the lead behind the middle! Not really convinced they're that useful a training tool though.

I am not sure the weight is a massive issue, I have a 2lbs2 one, the point of them is to get you to play the ball under your eyes more.
Still they are a great thing to use and John's offer is a bargain.

Out of interest what is his offer?
