If only Santner had played at that last ball. Small
Margins and all that.

Brilliant viewing and great for Cricket that it was on TV

In fairness Stokes could have nailed the last ball of our innings too but tried to play it safer by going for the two.

The real tragedy it's those extra runs off Stokes bat. So so harsh!

Bizarre way to end a World Cup - would rather see additional super overs till the match is decided. Similar to the long set in tennis.

But congrats to England for Finally bringing it home.

I’m still struggling to come down from that. What a game!

Wierd to look back.

In terms of the game. New Zealand where the better team. But Ben stokes was the best player, and neither deserved to lose!

But go further back, we had a mare against Pakistan, Sri Lanka and aus.
And New Zealand scraped through thanks to a Raines off against India.

Both on paper were certainly the least favoured of the 4 in the semi finals...... and yet here we are, both side deserving of lifting that trophy.

And what two different sides are they.
Nz grind out scores and defend it well.
England biff from the off and stack there line up with boundary hitters.

Yet both sides came together to not only draw the main game, but also be level after the super over!
It’s ridicolous to think about.

What a sport cricket is!

Now let’s get stokes a knighthood! Eoin, woakes, buttler., Jof.......... sod it, Knight the lot!

I was here at Lords, sat in front of the Barmy army. Couldn’t agree more with what smiley says. - a game that hung in the balance, won not by razzmatazz but by diligence - hope plenty of players learn this!

England were the better team, they never stopped believing that they will win this final!
New Zealand under pressure made mistakes which cost them the match!
What a final!
Very very happy
With so much on the stakes you're not going to get a better cwc final in the future! Let alone in the past.
Well done

Disagree here.  NZ were robbed by the Stokes knock on (which was what cost them the match), they fielded perfectly under pressure, and equalled England's score in the super over.

How can a team lose when the scores are still tied?  That super over has to be the the most ridiculous outcome ever.  If there is a tie, the tie breaker should go on until a clear winner can be found  :(.  To have NZ lose because they hit less boundaries is a farce.  In the Wimbledon final when it was all tied up in the 5th set, did they decide to have a countback on who won the most games to decide who won the match?  Of course not - they went on and on until they got a clear winner.

And while I'm ranting  ;) ,  Kane Williamson as player of the series???!!!!  Yes, he was fantastic, but surely not player of the series.  The only reason he got it was because those voting felt sorry for him being short changed in the final, and he happened to be there to accept the trophy.

Sharma 648 runs, Warner 647, Williamson 578 - sure, he's up there, but the standout was Michell Starc with a record 27 wickets - six more than his closest rival.
I did some stats, and over the 44 games completed there were 22,383 runs made and 672 wickets taken at an average of 33.3 runs per wicket.
So Starc's 27 wicket haul would be the equivalent of him making 899 runs (plus however many runs he made with the bat).  If that's not player of the tournament I'll eat my hat!

It was an amazing final though.  Well done to both teams, who were both worthy of winning.

Kane made the worst decision of the day by bowling Boult in the super over. Normally, he is a good bowler but it wasn't his day, he went for 60+ runs with no wickets and, though a hard one, dropped an important catch. Besides, right before the super over, he went for a plenty in the 50th over of the match. Started really well with 2 good deliveries but followed them with 2 mediocre ones, which cost the match.

I would have gone with Ferguson or Henry. That's where Morgan won the match today; by picking pace & accuracy over experience (Archer vs. Woakes, Stokes or Plunkett).

And, Santner should never have been in the boundary line (long off), he's slow, doesn't have a strong arm to throw all the way to the keeper.

Pretty nonsensical to decide the result of a whole tournament on a countback of a completely irrelevant stat. The aim of cricket is to make runs and take wickets,  both teams made the same runs, but only one team took all 10 wickets.

Lets not forget Stokes was caught and boult didn't realise the boundary rope was only 2 steps behind him. I feel as if this was the deciding factor of the outcome of the match.

Or they could do it on wickets lost in the super over.

Wickets down will ‘nearly’ always favour the side defending in the event of a tie.

Let’s just change the rules after a tournament to give us a winner we want?

Why not have head to head instead off run rate for tied groups.

New Zealand our Pakistan through.

Or reserve games for group game lost to weather? Different 4 go through....... etc etc

Got a good feeling that the game being on free to view tv and being the most incredible game ever played is going to do wonders for cricket in general for a few years at least
I don’t work with a single cricket fan out of about 20/25 blokes never have any of them talk cricket but they all know I love it
This morning every single one of them is loving it said they watched it and loved it and can’t stop chatting about it

What a spectacle that was. I was elated when England won yesterday but now, on reflection, it does feel a bit hollow. We were incredibly lucky to tie the game in the 50 overs and didn't really win the super over. Sharing the trophy would have been a fairer result.
