I'm not sure he will - when Root became Test captain I figured the "pick your mates" ethic might have stood in his favour but he then got to the stage on the last Ashes tour where Bayliss openly stated that he would have played Foakes as a specialist batsman ahead of Ballance.  Whilst there are definitely places up for grabs in the top three (personally I would say Burns is the only nailed on starter again Ireland) I would say that there are quite a few still in front of Gazza.

I still think Sibley's a douchebag for trying to dictate to Alec Stewart about wanting assurances on where he'd bat for the team; still glad he told him to pack his bags and get Clarke back.

Sam Curran finally plays a game for his county this season, how nice...

Can't really blame Sibley there I don't think - maybe more tact would have been sensible but given the Surrey top order is so stacked up that Dean Elgar bats 4, asking for assurances that you'll play seems like a reasonable move at contract renegotiation time!

There are two sides to the Sibley contract, but Surrey signing Borthwick and Stoneman and then expecting Sibley to become the new Harinath was always a bit unlikely., Stewart was also frustrated as Surrey had invested a lot in Sibley though.

As Stewie said at the same giving assurances on a batting slot in a performance based sport just wasn't his bag; also Sibley dined off that double hundred against Yorkshire for a bit too long.

On the other hand this is brilliant from Borthwick and Jacks considering we were 64-5

Kent just don’t quite have the X-factor player at the moment especially for Div 1. Had Surrey and Yorkshire in real trouble but once new ball has lost its shine or pitch loses that early day 1 nip there is a lack of penetration and not sore a team of 75mph wobblers will cut it in Div 1. Missing Matt Henry’s pace from last season for sure.
Also missing Denlys runs as well as Biliings. Big day for them tomorrow hopefully A daddy ton or two to keep them in the game

Watching Darren Masters Stephens bowling at Ricky Clarke in Div 1 of the county championship is ridiculous.
They are both old enough to be the father of half of Surrey's first team.

And Clarke isn't even Surrey's senior man. That, and the continued presence of one Trescothick, M in the county game should give heart to all us old f**ts that we may not quite be down the other side just yet!!!

He didnt ust want assurances, i believe he wanted it written in his contract specifically that he batted 3 or higher in all forms of the game. Surrey said dont be daft we wont even do that for Sangakarra, so he left. At that point he hadnt scored a ton in about 3 years.

After a great start Kent implode in reply to Surrey’s mamouth 1st innings score. Great to see my old clubs pro Sean Dickson find some form with a nice ton. Watched a lot of today via live stream and difference in bowling between the two sides is so vast

Essex thrashed Hampshire with Harmer cleaning up.

Amongst his wickets was this amazing piece of skill by Adam Wheater behind the sticks.

Or Denly with an unbeaten 100 against the bottom of the table with 0 wins depending on how you look at it.
