He chose not to in order to try and get back into the aussie test side for the ashes,

a stint in county championship much more valuable the an ipl deal in that sense youd think

To be fair Cricket Australia don't have Ed at the helm so I can't comment on how they choose their side.

Precisely!!

But if I recall correctly he was told to go away and score heavily to get picked, he did then wasn't picked or something it was a mess of I'm not mistaken!

Nice to see early wins for the much - maligned Leicestershie and Derbyshire; and Northants holding star- studded Middlesex to a draw.

So Middlesex battled to save a draw, then having enough runs that they couldn't lose declared to improve their over rate. This resulted in Eoin Morgan opening the bowling and coming off 2 paces.

And that's just the first round of games... The County Championship is a serious competition, right?

No, it's six overs at the end of one of the two drawn games
in the first round of COunty Champuonship matches, rather stupidly being played at the beginning of April.

Perhaps someone could have intemittently played thirty seconds of "Sweet Caroline", and the like, loudly over a (No Swearing Please) PA to have given it a more serious edge?

Also, poor decision by Notts to declare with Joe Clarke 3 short of another ton...I hope Joe had a quiet word with Mullany afterwards.

With Yorkshire only going 3 down the decision to declare hardly made a difference.

Overall I'm very surprised by the amount of runs scored in this first round by all the teams...just goes to show how much of an affect the early rain/snow of last year had on the games.

No! This is professional cricket! It didn't,  but it could have made all the difference.

I'm sure Joe Clarke will have been very understanding. It is perhaps more surprising that Notts didn't bowl a few overs last night.

On the flip side, perhaps Joe had a word with Mullaney last night as said "don't worry about my ton skip, let's go for the win"

He probably did. Or didn't even need to.

I read the BBC report last night. It said "Clarke on verge of another ton" or something. I actually thought, "Don't be stupid! They'll declare!"
