I've wondered about it as my eyesite problems make batting tricky. True I can bat fine without glasses but I am short sighted and when I wear specs it does help ie. picking up the length quicker and seam position on the ball. However, I also have one eye that scans left/right and another that scans up/down - this causes me real problems picking up flighted deliveries and one eye is more "oval" than the other, that's a problem apparently.

I have to wear glasses for distance stuff so I asked about it last year. I was told that because my prescription isn't that strong it would work but that it would most likely leave me needing to wear glasses later in life for reading.

I just ended up getting daily disposable contacts to wear when I play. Didn't think I'd like contacts but they're fine and I can now read the scoreboard which is handy. Don't think they made much difference to my batting though as I scored more runs in 2010 without them - but then again wild cross line swings with my eyes closed probably doesn't help.

First real hit of the season at Lords, after this first round of balls they told me i should just follow through and drive that sort of ball, very hard to get used to having grown up in Scotland where driving on the up is pretty much a no no.

It is amazing what they teach you at Lords ;)

Thanks

I can't (or couldn't) bat for (No Swearing Please). Too many years of playing on low slow wet wickets means I plant my front foot a lot, and really struggle when the ball is short. Also my bowling carried me to a level way above my batting so for years I never batted much and didn't have any real incentive to improve. Now I play on Astro's with tiny boundries, so since it's a batsmans game I fugured I may aswell try and become one.

P.S, feel free to have a swatch of the other guys videos, and have a guess which one captains Norway!

P.P.S or to give me any pointers (though I appreciate that's hard for such a short clip), I will stick up osome from nets in the future as they lack of any qualified coaches over here is probably holding me back a little from joining Fattus and becoming a real batsman!

Fairly defensive video below taken around Xmas 2011 over on my stint in Oz. Like I said nothing expansive in there, just working on balance and picking the right ball to hit.

I've been through it before a million times and I pick out a few key points which I've sorted by now. Namely getting squared up on a straighter length ball/tucking them into midwicket when they should probably go straight. And playing a bit inside out through Cover/Point.

Any comments/views/tips and pointers would be greatly appreciated! And before anyone asks, I don't know or care in the slightest what speed it was at, I just like to bat!

I assume the white stump is there for you to play no further across than "4th stump"?

I think it's a common problem with these pads, I remember seeing a 12 year wearing a pair and falling flat on his face whilst running. Pretty funny
