Bat binding
« on: April 03, 2019, 05:19:29 PM »

Has anyone tried removing there binding on there handle and replacing it with tape!? Currently have a bat I want to experiment on and would like to have same handle type as my gray nicolls 50 plus. Any info would be great.

Thanks rob

When you remove the binding  and replace with tape you are likely to feel vibration through the handle when playing a shot.

So how does it not through the bat that I have with it? Different handles?

I wouldn’t say I’ve felt any difference in the bats I’ve got with tape. Obviously means I’m finding the middle a lot  ;)

Better quality / thicker handles and or  with sercure  thicker or several handle inserts to reduce shock and as above avoid toe ending ball bowl at pace thickness of tape wraps find  that smooth medical tape gives the best handle feel

I would be sceptical about removing all the binding, more specifically the binding around the shoulders of the bat, I was always told that it adds crucial strength around the handle joint. Similarly to the Aus GN's which still have the bottom 4/5cms bound.

Your probably right. Glues these days are stronger than wood though so you'll probably be alright.

It does also  helps keeps handle rubbers in place and helps prevent  flex at the bottom of the handle
