Adidas XT3.0 Pads- Any feedback?
« on: April 09, 2019, 05:31:01 PM »

Having been looking for light weight, traditional looking legguards, I came across these Adidas pads (on IJC review on Youtube). The 2019 version look even more like a traditional pad, with canes (six rather than seven).
They are very light at 720+gms (IJC).
Has anyone tried these either the 2019 or previous versions?
I am particularly interested to see how good the knee protection is.

Thanks in advance,

David

Thanks in advance.

Here is a link to the IJC review on Youtube. These are the 2018 version. 2019 has a slightly more trad looking kneeroll.

Can be hit and miss, if you get a good one great.

Thanks, Buzz, given your experience of Adidas pads, I hoped you might be able to comment.
I am not quite sure I understand your feedback - Do you mean the protection can be variable from one of these pads to another, or that the batsman can be unlucky and get a ball hitting on a specific part of the knee that will hurt?

I think Buzz maybe misread your post and presumed it was bats of the same model name you were asking about.

I've been using my Adidas Libro 2.0 (think the model might have been County actually the year i got them) pads for what will be my 3rd season this year.

They certainly impress with the lightness but also they have padded straps which most manufacturers only have in their top models cost nearly £100!

I will admit you have to sacrifice a little bit of impact protection and by that I only mean you do tend to feel the ball hit but its certainly not going to cause pain or injury.

Overall great pads and i would happily have another pair!

Thanks dtl2018, that is another positive review regarding Adidas quality. I won't be facing 80mph bowling and I don't need pads that make me impervious to feeling the ball's impact, just prevent pain and injury.

If you have a chance to throw them on some scales, that would be very helpful for the pads weight database.

Sorry this was meant for the bat thread.

With Adidas pads, I have a pair of the Elite. They are lovely, and very light.
There are some decent deals out there on older models that are worth considering. But basically buy the best model you can afford.

I took the plunge with XT 3.0. They are even lighter than last year's model - 1,312grams per pair - averaging 656gms each, for full (well six canes) cane pads!

The kneeroll design seems to be the same as 2018, which I am a little disappointed by, but the weight, quality and feel, I am delighted with.
I shall have a play with the protection (where is my mallet..) and may introduce a little additional padding to the knee area if needed. I may also add some towelling/ padding to the straps if necessary. The straps do come up very long, so I need to think about reducing the length somehow (but don't want to lose the leather tab at the ends. I may have to get my wife's sewing kit out.
