Hope all the moaners about Roy taking the nightwatchman last night are suitably embarrassed with themselves now - looking like a tactical masterstroke

Looks like England have found a new opener. A Leach hundred would be fantastic.

to everyone saying Burns technique is an issue,

think back 3 years, most of you were saying he must be picked, he's scoring runs for fun and his technique wont be an issue...

and no he is not worse than Jennings far from it, just in bad form, he'll be given the start of the ashes at least

It’s not Burns technique, he is not in nick because he has hardly played enough four day cricket ...same as lots of others.
The one day stuff has taken over most of our summer.

Same with hameed, these guys need to playing a lot but the schedule has not allowed it

It’s his technique.

Any batsman out of nick who don’t score the technique gets blamed
Any batsman scoring runs with the same technique no one mentions it

Burns knows how to score runs, he has proved it.

Test match history shows up players with faults scoring runs

Burns had to score mountains to get in because the selectors were concerned about his technique - you never want to be the guy moaning about England players but you have to say they're being proved right. That said, it didn't look awesome at the start of his England career but it looks worse now! As for hasn't played any this year - he's played 8 FC games and is top scorer for his county.

You’re dead right he had to wait his turn because there are a lot of moving parts to his batting.

Now he’s in let’s back him he had to put in 5 years solid scoring before a chance

The forum is far too quick to judge what is needed to score at test level.

Let’s see after a fair crack of the opening spot.

This! so correct!

roy looking in trouble to the ball that is swinging back in, didnt look this out of sorts in the world cup even though there was a slight issue

really hope he goes big this summer!

I feel like England have missed a trick by not picking Sibley or Hain for this match. With so many quick scoring middle order players England need guys at the top of the order capable of grinding out slow runs to see off the new ball.

I'd love to see a team of: Burns, Sibley, Hain, Root, Roy, Stokes, Buttler(WK), Woakes, Ali, Archer/Stone/Wood, Anderson/Broad for the first Ashes test

Roy's clearly a ludicrously talented player but he looks so much better when the ball is a bit worn and not moving anywhere near as much, same as Root really. Burns and Sibley are both good for absorbing early bursts and Hain is now ready to become Trott 2.0
