Disappointed with the batting but it's par for the course these days. Australia equally brittle with the bat so 258 might be a good score.

And that’s your opinion and your entitled to it mate. The only evidence is the change that has seen England become world champions from group stage knock outs and from interviews etc the players have serious respect and admiration for him as a leader of men.
Tbh I'd much rather we pick the correct players for the correct roles, then pick a captain from whom ever is in that playing XI.

If Root was to quit, I'd be hoping Stokes would be the new captain. He's got that Botham style aura. Seems to be able to carry other along with him when he's going well.

Yeah, can't believe the management haven't tried to repeat the roaring success of Ian Botham as England captain.

11-1 Warner bowled by Broad. Warner also survived a caught behind of Archer when no one appealed

So how was Archer's first day bowling in the test?  Did he trouble the Aussie's or was it that he was quick but did not make the batsmen play?  Sorry, the only thing I have is CricInfo comms being based in US.

I certainly wouldn't say he bowled poorly, but he probably could have made the batsman play more than he did, and he was a bit wasteful with the short ball. As for speeds, it didn't look like anyone was particularly troubled by it.

He was between 88 and 91 at his quickest

Got abit of movement but bowled a tad too wide.

He did hurry Bancroft up abit early on........ but Bancroft just looks so rusty alround it probably just that.

Too early to judge from just one spell yesterday. But no matter how quick one is, in Test Cricket its all about patience and discipline. This is what separates the men from the boys.

Why are the pundits bringing up Bairstow at 5 again? He did that last summer and was largely not good at it...

Bowled a couple of unplayable balls but as others have said bowled slightly too wide and allowed a lot of be left. Looking forward to this morning especially if we can get 2hrs in against the aussies in these conditions before the rain.

Archer has wasted the new ball yesterday and nothing has changed this morning. Bowling far too short
