Two lifelines from Root with some very poor fielding

He better make it count but knowing him he will score a fifty odd and find a way to get out.

Root is England batting personified.

Looks good but too often 39-3 (or should be)

In a dead rubber of a fixture ?

It’s only a dead rubber in regards the ashes
England are right there test championship points and we can draw the series so hardly dead

But yeah why not we have a long winter and I’d rather have an in form Jonny going to South Africa this winter so yeah this would be a good tome for Jonny to find some form

So if Root makes a ton he's been lucky/only does it when it doesn't count and if Bairstow scores runs it's in a dead rubber so doesn't count for much either?! Not sure its any easier, still facing the same attack, Root against the new ball just about and with a lot still on the line for both. The chance to draw the series, Root having to face criticism about his captaincy, Bairstow knowing people are questioning him too.

Disappointing we've not won the Ashes back but we're so down on our sportsmen sometimes. I reckon both these players would get into most (if not all teams) in the world tbh, yet we don't rate them!

No chance of Root making a ton.  He did not cash in on all the lifes that he received.

Cummins just said the fielders have butter fingers so I am just going to bowl him  :o

Root bowled 57 by Cummins. Gets dropped 3 times and still can’t get a century. Woeful

Root def would he is that good. If you read some of the criticism/comments in the press the majority are saying he has the talent to be one of the worlds best players, there would be loads on here that would agree with that. But the Captaincy being questioned as in is it stopping him becoming the best player he can be(massively agree with this myself)

test cricket format, there's no way on earth Bairstow would get into most teams, he's just not good enough.
