Tailsman Perfect Storm - Partial
« on: February 23, 2010, 06:17:25 PM »

Weight: 2.8

Grade: Tailsman Reserve

Profile: Newbery Krakatoa

Stickers: Perfect Storm

Grip: Black

Knocked In: Yes

Price: 200

Handle: SSH

Delivery: Shipped, should receive it by next week.

Looks: Pics look great so far, will write more once I receive it and take a few more pics also.

Pick-up and Feel: Coming soon to a topic near you.

Ping: Release date yet to be determined.

Overall: So far dealing with Mike has been easy and smooth, emails and pm’s are usually answered instantly if not a day the most. We spoke earlier in Jan about the bat and I wasn’t in a rush so the delay from his trip to India didn’t bother me. The first bat he got from Newbery wasn’t up to par with his standards so he had to wait a bit longer to collect another one. That is a testament of the perfectionist Mike is. Will update the rest of the review once I collect the bat and have a net session with it.

Nice bat mate... hope my Storm will be as good as that one :)
I went for the custom with a 1" shorter blade 1" longer handle.

Thanks, I just can't wait to get it in my hands..  :)

Leo, Mike said he has 15 clefts from the same tree all of them should be lovely, if your cleft is from the same tree..

Looks very nice, it really does.
It looks huge for a 2 8 with stickers and grips!

Bat is 2.8 and a half including stickers, face and double thickness grip, not really selected for grains but they are OK, density was good and low, the bat has 34mm edges and a big overall profile. I hand knocked it in which I rarely do so don't ask me if you order a bat!!! Middle was sensational, truly smile inducing with the hammer, should be a belter and look forward to a report after nets.

How do you tell if wood is low density by just looking at it?

grain structure is a big give away, grains tight together would suggest that it is softer, lighter wood

OK .
Thought it might be more than that. More grains, lighter wood

No, grains do not play a part in density, they are connected to stiffness in the blade, a performance factor but density is size of bat against weight. Basically the biggest bat physically for the dead weight will have the lowest density.
