Net Bats?
« on: October 01, 2019, 11:38:34 AM »

Hi everyone,

Apologies in advance for the stupid question that follows......I have seen a few posts about net bats and wondered both how essential a "net bat" is and what it is best to get in a net bat?
If there is a lower grade version of the same bat in the same weight is that the preference?  Or would just about any bat do?
Seems like most of you have numbers bats and options based on the other current post, but clearly a lot harder when the bat count is under 3.......!

I don't have one, just use my match bat. Suppose it depends on how precious you are of your match bat/bats. Also if you use cheap rock hard balls which might not be great for damage etc. We use old match balls tho, so decent quality.

It depends where I am netting.  If I am at club nets where we use old match balls, I use a bat that I am playing in to get match ready.  If I am netting with people using their own balls, I have a couple of cheap, harder bats that I will use against the poor quality balls

Any difference with bowling machine balls?  Are they suitable for playing in a match bat?

Split opinion but has been fine for me for years, if you hot thousands than maybe not but if it’s just set at about 60mph than it’s fine

If I hit even half a dozen I'd be ecstatic  ;)

I think you are missing the point of having 'net bats'. This is purely a device used delude ourselves into thinking that it's ok to purchase more bats, it's the old N+1 theory. The perfect number of bats to own is N+1 where N is the current number of bats you currently own.
I was in a shop recently that was selling weighted bats as training devices, they were over 3lb and the ugliest willow I've ever seen but still $200A.
