I have a couple of bats from an ex international players and the top of the handle had a counter weight made of rings of grip and tape. I moved it down the handle to make the bat length a size-6 length bat. It does two things for me: 1. Keeps my top hand from sliding up as the rolled up grips checks any slippage; 2. additional grip makes it easier to hold the bat in my top end, I feel I control the bat better.

Yes, the heavier the counterweight the better the balance, but the more dead weight.

If it does or not I have no idea but Iv noticed a lot of pro players have this set up now.
