He did do well in his brief test career but Olivier had a pretty average season for Yorks (second worst average of anyone to take over 20 wickets in Div1) while Nortje just had a great series for SA, so would Olivier get selected tomorrow? Unlikely, given everyone available the three seamers would probably be Rabada, Abbot and Nortje.

Great for SA cricket, about time the loophole was closed.

Argument of whether country cricket has ruined the SA game vs. Giving chance for players to secure a future.

Might not be the first pick now but they seemingly rated him pretty highly and he'd be ahead of Patterson or Hendricks IMO.

Paterson's an allrounder, Hendricks definitely but he doesn't get in their best side anyway.

Patterson's the captain. But not really an all-rounder.

Seems to be Patterson/Paterson mix up!

Ones a yorskshire player and the others a Proteas bowler with bad teeth.

Or even a Paterson/Pretorius mixup, doh. I'd forgotten about Paterson, his bowling was that average.

Could have maybe just left it at a Protea bowler.

Ha, probably, just can’t get past his teeth any time I see him on TV. Imagine SA players get less than English ones but sorting my teeth would be up my priority list regardless  :D

Sorry, my bad. I skim-read the thread and thought it was about Yorkshire.

I understand the SA drain due to Kolpak but I am still concerned about SA transformation policy.  From what I remember the reason around Abbot taking the Kolpak deal was he got dropped to meet the transformation requirements for Philander who was not 100% fit.  If he were to come back will he get into the team if SA needed to meet the quota requirement or would he get dropped for Ngidi.  My money says he will be the first person to lose his place in that situation, even though he might be a better bowler.  Majority of the bowling Kolpak players are in the same boat.  The only way they would get into the team is SA find top order batsmen who can help with transformation policy.

In the current team the only players that can are Temba, Keegan Petersen and Hamza.  Does SA have any keepers that are close to De Kock that can also help?  The last couple of series the backup keepers have ben Klaasen and Second, neither off them help with the quota.  If SA wants to win they have to pick the best team for international games from the players available.  They can experiment with the transformation at the first class and local level to provide additional opportunities.

Yeah because fake tans and the Hollywood smile is what cricket is all about.

What next, Botox for anyone over 30 and free augmentations for lady team members should they be deemed lacking by the self appointed 'Adonis'.

Peterson, Patterson, Pietersen, Pattinson, easily done.

No, only a single 't' we're talking about. And let's face it, spelling on here isn't always the best.

I don't know Paterson. Only Super Steve.

I should have known a county championship thread wasn't really about the county championship.
