Cricket Bat Edge Crack - Help!

I had a match today and got this bummer on my new bat. Should I just put some fibre glass tape to over it or fix it professionally. Brand new bat so I’m a bit worried. Is it a surface crack or something much deeper?

Nothing to worry about at all. Get some decent superglue (gorilla glue is a good option, place it over and in the crack, blow on it for about 30 seconds, sand it down, and the mixture of sawdust and superglue will fill the crack, really easy fix and should only take about 2 mins. After your sealed it, I'd add some fibre tape and give it a bit of a go with a mallet just to level it out.

The only thing is would it be worth taking off my scuff sheet and everything. Can I just put tape over it like normal edge tape?

It might be worth fixing it now as it involves an area of several inches along the edge. There's quite a helpful video on YouTube by Aldred (sorry to mention him on this forum...) showing how easy it is. If you're really careful you should be able to peel back the scuff sheet, fix the crack and then glue the scuff sheet back on with PVA, just tape it up for a few hours until the PVA sets.

You probably wouldn't even need to PVA it down, just stick some fibre tape over it to help it stick down

For the sake of a £3 scuff sheet you may as well do it properly!

Take the scuff sheet off and clean all the residue off the bat face.
Get some glue in the crack then let it dry, once dry give the face a sand to tidy it up and clean off any excess glue.
Once sanded give the bat a coat of oil or 2, leave it at least 24 hours per coat to dry. Once you've done this knock the edges a bit more (mainly so the damaged area is smooth, and this will hopefully prevent any further damage)
Apply a new scuff sheet and you'll be good to go again
