Cricket bat handle design is a relic of olde cricket bats. It is not ergonomic.

Pace of innovation is painfully slow in cricket. I'd like to see changes to the handle design - carved to accommodate different grips of top and bottom hands. Unfortunately, the punter behavior is rampant and anything new is ridiculed.

The trade off I guess is what Newbery are fing with their 'axe' handle...

If you are wearing a glove, mould of your hand may not work. What could work is a handle carved to accommodate the fleshy/bottom part of the palm, thumb location, and the index of the gloved bottom hand. Same for the top hand. With those ridges in place for both hands, the twine may not work for the handle and also conventional grips. Maybe the handle itself could be old-style but the grip could be made to have those ridges on top surface.
