T20 World Cup 2010 England Squad
« on: March 01, 2010, 10:43:44 AM »

A few new faces come in and a lost a few old ones in the 30 man squad. Thoughts?

Full Squad
Paul Collingwood (capt), James Anderson, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Stuart Broad, Steven Davies, Joe Denly, Steven Finn, Craig Kieswetter, Michael Lumb, Sajid Mahmood, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Eoin Morgan, Graham Onions, Kevin Pietersen, Liam Plunkett, Matt Prior, Adil Rashid, Owais Shah, Ajmal Shahzad, Ryan Sidebottom, Graeme Swann, James Tredwell, Peter Trego, Jonathan Trott, David Wainwright, Chris Woakes, Luke Wright, Michael Yardy.

What will be the final 15?

I think the final 15 will look something like this, although it is pretty clear the selectors have no idea who the best 2020 team is (actually nor do I for that matter)...

Collingwood
Kieswetter
Bell
Bopara
Broard
Denley
Anderson
Morgan
Mascarenhas
Pietersen
Swann
Prior
Shahzad
Tredwell
Wright

I think the way that pitches are going over in the Windies, the more spinners the merrier.  Swann is obvopusly number 1, but should England decide to play 2, the door is open for any of Tredwell, Wainwright or Rashid.  Tredwell is the man in posession at the moment, and will hopefully get a go in Bangladesh, but at least one of those 3 must go.  Seamers, you can pretty much take your pick.  Anderson, Broad and Bresnan are certainties.  I would suggest 2 more from Onions, Plunkett, Shahzad and Sidebottom.

Prior and Kieswetter look certain to go as keeping options, as things stand, which is a little harsh on Steve Davies, who seems to have lost his place in the queue.

This would leave 6 spots.  Colly, KP, Morgan, Wright are certainties, leaving 2 spots.  I would go with Lumb and Bell, Lumb as a naturally aggressive opening batsman alongside Kieswetter, and Bell I would have floating in the order in case we lose early wickets and need a steadying hand.

i think its worth having two keepers especially as prior and kieswetter are god batsman as well. No point in taking any chance.

Yes but have the England selectors got any t20 brains, by the looks of the first squad, no! They probably wont think of putting in two keepers!

Im thinking of these players and when i see them i see Test Match players and i can't see the majority doing well in the T20 format, where as the current Australian side will win it no doubt, they are phenomenal. And there is no point taking to keepers, Kieswetter is a better batsmen therefore he should be in the side, no point taking Prior he is not a T20 player in my eyes (I don't even think he is good enough for england, considering we have Davies, Foster & Kieswetter)

Anyways

Collingwood (Back up keeper)
Pietersen? (If he picks his form up)
Morgan (Back up keeper)
Lumb
Bell
Kieswetter (Keeper)
Mascarenhas
Wright
Trego
Anderson
Swann
Broad
Bresnan
Finn
Tredwell

Owais Shah might get a shout,

but I would have gone with Quick-Keeps squad without bell and put Denly in for him

Would love to see Yardy have a go, hes such a economical bowler, and a handy batsman. In the champion league he bowled four overs for 11 on a flat pitch!
