We have our own nets and will put them up as soon as the ECB states it’s ok and then we will book sessions and times via our what’s app group with a max of 2 hours per household and a 30min gap between each usage to allow for them to leave and all the Bola balls to be placed in a bucket of water and disinfectant. If not using the Bola machine must use your own balls

Im gasping for a net. I don't mind if its with just 1 other person but never in a million years will that person be my wife so I'm pleased there seems to be a bit of flexibility appearing in terms of meeting up / exercising.    Problem is the club nets are locked up and I'm not sure if the leisure centre is staffed to open them (or be willing to open them in any case).

In other news the wife has stated she does not mind if I build a net in the garden (including digging a level strip, concreting it and putting a playing mat on top) so if I can find the funds and the energy I could be set for years   :D

'One net free between nets'

We only have indoor facilities anyway, so no different for us. Ah.

Bit gutted as our club has an outdoor cage for netting that we would usually use during a "normal" season and throwdown nets that are on poles that you can pop up. Unfortunately the club chairman is not letting us use them even with the new guidance released today.

Considering we pay a groundsman, i'm pretty disappointed a wicket or two couldn't be prepared for some one to one practice for what I would imagine would be most of the day on both Saturday and Sunday every week. I understand its not just cutting some grass and might not be worth the effort, but i'd have preferred to see them give us something back for our annual subs.

Anyone having this with their own clubs?

That's pretty poor imo, as you say what's the point of being a member of a cricket club if you can't play some cricket now it's permitted again.

We've got the perfect facilities for this in theory - three astro lanes and a grass net, but as the uni own the ground we're dependent on them opening it up again. Crossing fingers but not hopeful we'll get a net before June.

We've got a good set up for this too. Four lanes, so could use 1 and 4 to ensure distance, cage on the 2s square and then put up netting around the astro strip on the colts pitch.

We're waiting for our committee interpretation of the guidance but I can see the club opening up again. Worryingly though, my pub manager has said we are aiming to reopen on 4th July, so hopefully he remembers that I booked every Saturday this summer off!

As part of the committee, we have taken the sad decision to remain closed.
Given the ECB guidelines we didn’t feel it was a viable option (we haven’t taken any subscriptions so far this, and can survive until at least April next season with no further funds).

As a player would love to be out there. But feel as a club we have made the right decision.

I am also on the committee at my club and I don't understand why any club would voluntarily remain closed, a simple Google booking sheet and timed slots would facilitate practice in nets.

To each their own, but that's just my opinion

I haven’t read the report in fine detail as of yet but if your netting with another person at your club and at least one is a member is that not the “representative of your club” element covered. As I said I haven't read In full but didn’t seem to see on scan reading an independent person had to be present.

My club is going to Allow netting but wants to set up all elements in full and not just allow people to rush down tomorrow for example

I would have said that a member and a booking list qualifies but with such little guidance and such early days since just even being allowed out of the house except for very limited things I suspect they have decided ensuring safe use and eliminating *unsafe* use (perhaps the more tricky thing) is too much liability to take on. There’s just no context yet for how to do things like this is in way is considered *safe*

Across your two comments Dan- I feel you’ve summed it up very well I feel.
I see what Leachy is saying, but with all the unknowns we have taken an “easier” option at present.

We take the nets off the cages every year and store them over winter to keep them in the best possible condition.

We didn’t get them back on before lockdown. It’s definitely more than a two man job unfortunately

The club took a poll vote yesterday and 81% were against opening. Reasons were mainly based about it being stupid, too risky, not worth the risk and the club not being put in a position by a few individuals where it could go on to contaminate others.

All in all, I agree. We seem to have many people eager to be ‘ill be all right jack’ and rush headlong into a second wave jut for the sake of a quick buck or a bit of sport (which won’t start this season anyway - if it does, nothing meaningful as many players won’t play)

I think we all need to accept that the season is a write off. Even if only a small percentage of people refuse to play many clubs won’t be able to put out a side.
If there is a reluctance to net I can imagine the problems in getting 22 people together for a game. Also, how much prep have people been putting into their grounds? Not a lot I imagine.
Golf and darts for me from now on i think.

We've been keeping the ground ready to play within two weeks of getting the all clear. New groundsmen have the squares good to go, nets stay up over winter, committee members have been keeping non playing areas mowed and tidy.

There is a lot of enthusiasm to get back out there, but tempered with caution.
