TVL have said for a while the plan is for 4th July round of friendlies, then starting the league on 10th with no promotion or relegation

I think there has been a bit of a Mexican standoff with the ECB and the leagues where liability is concerned-understandably

Middlesex are now communicating with clubs for a restart 11th July or maybe the following week.

It appears, at the moment, this only applies to first and second eleven cricket.

But it looks like we are closer now to an actual restart.

I think most leagues will firm up this date and we will get half a season in myself, which is as much as we can hope for really.

There are some players reluctant to start playing I know of as this has to be respected whatever level you are at- that does bring problems of course with getting the numbers out.

So no promotion or relegation

Half a season if that

Nothing competitive

Teams not generally going to be able to put out full teams

Stick to friendlies

I'm not sure about promotion or relegation, it could be just one up and one down which agree would bring issues but as you will know yourself over the years we have been playing competitive cricket has been the marker leagues go by.

The introduction of Sunday leagues (45 or less overs win or lose) has grown in recent years.

I think myself whilst you and I probably remember as youngsters playing Sunday friendly cricket it has died out a lot-that is the reality, whether it makes the game better clearly is debatable, but that Is the reality.

In this case, because of the virus, whatever the leagues put together we need to follow for he benefit of the game overall.

I'm not saying play if you or anyone does not feel safe doing so, I'm saying if your happy to play we should accept whatever the leagues format is.

The ameteur game is dying, everyone knows that, a whole year of not playing would hurt clubs financially and otherwise.

The point about not getting a full team out will be a proble, totally agree there

What's the difference between playing the league fixtures that were scheduled to be played in July without promotion or relegation and playing friendlies? Seems like a huge administrative burden to sort out a friendly future list with all the problems over ground shares and such like that that brings when there is a perfectly good set of fixtures already set out

Our league has been rearranged into 6-team local leagues to minimise travel time and where everyone plays everyone once and you can still feel like you won something at the end of the year. Seems to me like this is the best approach. Why doesn't every league do this?

Communication today that the Two Counties league has been cancelled.  Sighted too many clubs can’t extend the season, issues with travel to away games as the two main reasons.

Arranging local friendly games but no dates given.

Total load of rubbish from the ECB in my opinion from start to finish in the handling of club cricket but an inevitable outcome given the fact that there has but been any communication to clubs to start getting pitches ready yet.  Best guess is maybe 6/7 weeks of friendly games from mid/late July until early Sep.

With no promotion or relegation all games are friendlies.. that’s still circa 12-14 games available if you play sat and sun .. that’s as many as most casual players play in a whole season tbf

Just seen it mate, I thought they were going to try and organise a cup competition or something like that.

But it seems that it's just, here's a list of your nearest clubs and get on with it.

Although I am not surprised, I am annoyed how it's all been handled.

It's annoying but at this point I'll take any cricket I can get. Scotland doesn't even have training allowed until 29 June, it could be worse!

Local leagues could easily have already broken clubs down into groups (closest geographically) and then put out that these will play friendlies . Limits travel etc

That’s the only thing really leagues can sensibly do. Obviously if you’re a million miles away it becomes difficult and the odd club might lose out but the odd club is better than all clubs

It’s not really been handled from the Comms Iv seen. I can honestly say I think the two counties Board has no intentions of trying to get competitive cricket going this season. Hell they don’t even let us change a fixture from a sat to Sun or bank holiday Monday for a whole club wedding. Tell you that you will need to fill a side or forfeit the fixture. They are are very backward thinking and stubborn board in the 5 years that Iv been playing in this league.
It was always going to be a challenge when Covid broke and lockdown came in etc but some leagues seem to have been really pro-active and even now have been asking clubs when they can start and which clubs can start ASAP etc. Nothing like that from our cricket board. Now it’s cancelled when it looks like social distancing is about to be reduced, risk level dropped from 4 to 3, pubs and restaurants re-opening.

Sounds like a rant but the fact the season is now officially over isn’t my main point of frustration it’s how poor our crixket board and the ECB as a whole have been for the sport most of us love. All well and good focusing all your efforts on the pro game but there is no pro game without the amateur game. Be interesting to see how many players now just think actually a summer of no cricket isn’t that bad and youngsters just fall away from the game. Iv seen and heard golf has never been so popular
