Even if it's just 1 person out of 22 players is infected then that one person can easily infect the most of his team and possibly few others from the oppo team, week by week infection rates will go up within the cricketing community.

I can understand the pressure to start the economy and kick start professional game in the country due to financial aspects but there is absolutely no need to take a risk with the recreational game. R rate is still between 0.7 and 1 so we don’t have much headroom to risk it with non-essential activities.

The curve we flattened was an artificial flattening due to all actions we took during last few weeks, it’s only going to pick up soon as we go to normal lives.

I’ve been on isolation even before the official lockdown started (working from home full time), I usually play the whole season including friendlies in a normal season, so I’m dying for a game of cricket right now but I see no joy me playing cricket for fun when there is a possibility my actions could lead to some people losing their loved ones.

So I’ve made my peace with 2020 season, even if my league decides to start in July I won’t be a part of it.

What I would say is that despite the easing of lockdown restrictions, and despite the clear ignorance of a large number of people to what social distancing actually means in the last month, our infection rates are still falling, our new cases day by day are lowering despite testing going up.

There was a leading oncologist who has a background in immunology who suggested that there was research that had been published saying that the virus has begin to run its course.i found it really interesting, here's the link if you want to check it out. https://youtu.be/EQ-ATT_Cd6M

Guys can I make a suggestion to all just from what has been discussed and the comments that have caused offence over the last week, let’s all stop talking about infection rates and risks because it’s only gonna build back up again?

Let’s talk about the positive return of cricket as it will happen when the time is right and if each player returns when they feel ready then that is right for that individual, I personally can’t wait to start playing cricket again! I only got offended because of people saying there is no risk. So maybe going forward we can all be positive and hopeful!

Sorry to go on again haha!!

Agreed mate, I wasnt trying to say there was no risk, just saying that infection rates are still falling, as you said its everyone's right to decide what level of risk they want to take on.

No worries, didn't take it personally just wanted to clarify my post ☺️

Hopefully on the back of the Govt announcement that 50 is a little closer!

I feel your pain fella, I was well into my 30's without ever scoring a 50. Then one day I got a ton.  Teammates took great pleasure in pointing out I'd still technically not scored a 50 !  Hopefully this is your year.

From South Yorkshire league.
Today there has been the latest fortnightly video-conference between ECB and Premier League chairmen.

I want to share with you the key points from that meeting:

The ECB are absolutely determined that some recreational cricket be played in 2020, but we are still some way from that happening.
Before we move to the stage of playing full games, there will be an intermediate stage of ‘adapted play’; playing in adjusted formats, for example, shortened games, in smaller groups, with fielding restrictions, etc.
‘Small group guidance’ to support this ‘adapted play’ stage is anticipated to be published by ECB within the next 48 hours.
There are, as yet, no specific dates for either ‘adapted play’ or full play.

I propose that in the ‘adapted play’ stage it will be for our clubs to arrange what best suits them, whether within their own club, or with a neighbouring club or clubs.

The YSPL will arrange games for the full play stage, probably on the basis of a cup competition with a group stage to ensure that we maximise the use of whatever Saturdays are available, with a t20 competition for some Sunday play.

I, and other chairmen, have made the point that the initial, ‘adapted play’ stage equates to practice for our players, and that it is the full play stage that will be most important for them, so we need an indication of the date for that as soon as possible.

Once a date is known, we will quickly check with our clubs that they are in a position to play from that date, before including them in any formal competition.

I am sorry that I cannot bring you any more definite information yet, but I will continue to keep you informed

Keeping a keen eye on this one, as this is our league! 👀

That's easily the most competent-sounding league communication I've seen floating around so far.

TVL having similar discussions with the possibility of friendly cricket returning in July - I.e. inter club t20 matches with reduced players and then moving onto local friendly matches.
August - possible return to league fixtures - with no promotion or relegation - likely to be scrapped of July go ahead does not happen

Is that inter club or intra club?

Inter club would be between 2 seperate teams, while intra club is 2 teams made up from the same club!

It is only a couple of letters different, but you could exploit that loophole if they've said inter club! ;)

Slightly on a tangent, will any of the upcoming England matches be free to air? Monies a bit tight due to the virus and can’t really justify the subscription at this time.

I only ask because I saw that the premier league has made 35 games free to air.

Look as much as I want to get back to cricket and will take anything that is on offer right now.

I am interested to see what the ECB come up with as 'adaptive rules', that will actually make a difference.

Reducing the the numbers, allows you to social distance easier of course but it is a cricket field, you still have to have a bowler and keeper, 2 batsmen, umpires, which are the ones which are the ones social distancing is closest etc...

If they are talking playing say 6 a side and you have a club full of members itching to play, then it's going to be interesting sorting that out.

Look don't get me wrong as I said I will take anything but with other sports, including grassroots football, sorting themselves out if they don't get this right then a lot of people will be very upset etc...

Player umpires, application of hand sanitiser to the ball allowed, no teas, etc... Plenty of adapted rules that would be sensible, easy to implement and reduce risk.

But there is the difference.... they are sensible changes.

Playing reduced overs and numbers just doesn't.
