Newfound Hobby
« on: May 14, 2020, 09:25:49 AM »

Hey guys,

I will admit. I’ve been abit of a lurker over the past couple months. But I’ve only decided to sign up and start posting. This is abit of a passion that has come about over the past cricket season. What started off as a few refurbs and ‘attempting’ to fix a couple mates bats. After a few cans with some friends (and some persuading by them) I decided to try my hand at bat making. After sourcing a grade 2 cleft from H4L, I found a new hobby that I throughly enjoy. I’ll post below a few bats I’ve made. I’ve got a long way to go (finishing needs to be a bit cleaner and abit more experience haha) but  I’m pretty stoked with where I’m at. Would love to get more into it, but I can’t force all my mates to buy custom bats  :(

If you have any feedback or tips, I’d love to hear them. Always looking for ways to improve.
Enjoy

This is the first bat I ever attempted. Massive shape, mainly due to my unwillingness to mess it up. Spent a while on it getting used to the tools. Came in at 2.14. I wish I had more photos of it.

This is my match bat. I just finished giving it a sand in prep for the new season (if we are able to)
Specs:
Mid-low middle
38mm Edge
64mm Spine
14mm Shoulders
22mm Toe
Very full shape
2lbs 10.5oz

This is a bat I just made up for a friend. Very full shape. Duckbill toe with what I think is a longish middle.
Specs:
Grade 1
Mid middle
30mm Edge
54mm Spine
15mm Shoulder
15mm Toe (Centre of toe is 24mm)
2lbs 11oz

Edit: My apologies for the photos. I’m using my phone to post this and I’m having trouble posting photos with the img code so I’ve just attached them. I’ll post more photos once I figure this all out.  If an admin/mod could post them in the post. I would greatly appreciate it.

If you follow that link I’m hoping it comes up. It will start off with my match bat, then go to my friends and then my first bat. I don’t remember it being this hard to post photos haha.

Good job, well done. Putting photos on here is a bit of a nightmare though there are guides if you search for them.
I use postimages.org them just copy the ‘thumbnail for forums’ and paste it into the forum post.

I had another two up on the bench earlier today.

The top one (with 3 photos) is a G1, 38mm edge and a 65mm spine. Spine runs nearly all the way through the toe. Current state is 2.11.

The bottom ones players, 40mm edge and 71mm spine it was finished at 2.13. Bit of an odd shape, the inspiration was the b3 beluga. We had to tinker with the shape abit, but the customer is stoked on the outcome.

Thanks for the comments guys, been a long process to get to where I am. I’ve still got a long way to go. Hopefully I can keep it up.

Thanks bud, I follow your work on Instagram. The stuff you do is brilliant.

Cheers mate, at the time of shaping. I actually didn’t even know of that shape till it was mentioned to me later on. I can see the resemblance now after looking at it.

Good efforts mate,

Couple of tips that have helped me, if you draw a straight line across the toe from the top corner to the other top corner, that will make sure your edges are level at the toe.

Then the other suggestion would be to draw on the rough shape of the edges you want either using a template bat, or by placing lots of dots and then joining them up, will allow you to keep the edges nice and even too.

Other than that keep enjoying it mate

Been awhile since I’ve posted. Been lurking but haven’t had the opportunity to shape anything. Had some sticks come in over the past week and had the opportunity to shape these ones up. I feel as tho I’m slowly getting alittle more fluent with my shapes. All in good fun tho. Both feel amazing in the hands and seem to be a absolute weapons.

2lbs 12oz
Double grip for thicker handle
38mm Edge
68mm Spine
15mm Shoulder
20mm Toe
Full profile
Slight duckbill

I can’t really remember the specs on this. I know it’s around 2.10 and full. Was very well balanced. Felt amazing in my hands. Shame I couldn’t keep it tho haha.

Cheers lads.

Had another one up on the bench this afternoon.

39mm Edge
69mm Spine
22mm Toe
2.10-2.11
Mid to low middle

Isn’t completely finished, only gone through one sanding stage but this bat looks and feels amazing.
Shame it’s getting sent out, this one could of slipped right into my bag.
