We won yesterday and the rain skirted around us.
Good to be playing competitive cricket again
Only got 16 with the bat but felt good, need to miss the fielders a bit more.
New bat is absolute gun, very happy with it.
Took 3-13 with the ball.
I injured myself in the field diving for a ball so I’m not playing today.  Not sure I’ll bother doing that again next Saturday

Saved by the rain. Our top order failed again, three caught in the cordon driving on a pitch that clearly wasn't there for the big drive, and another falling over a straight ball. We were 75ao, but never got on after tea. I got 11, a couple of drives through extra off their spinner before being early on a slog sweep and getting caught at long on. I was batting with our 16yo opening bowler so had to try for some respectability.

I had been dropped to the 2s for this week - to strengthen the batting and get overs in the legs. This is despite second top scoring last week, now two weeks running. Feels like I am going to be the scapegoat for the top order failing again when the coach is back available.

If you're being held responsible for a top order collapse whilst batting at 8 then it sounds like you'd be best off in the 2s anyway and perhaps hoping a new captain is installed in the 1s at the next AGM.

Putting in effort while fielding is overrated anyway 😂

Our first intraclub game of the season this Saturday and I can already feel the moving parts creaking!

did you drill holes in their bats before they went out, give them all rophies, or just heckle them in to a blubbering wreck?

All I've done is train hard and make a good start to the season.

Looks like I am staying in the 1s for now, and hopefully get a chance to stake a claim with the bat.

Maybe it's just me, but if dropped down to the 2s 'to strengthen the batting' I'd be thinking of it as an opportunity to score a few or get a nice red inker. To stake a claim with the bat, as you say. Getting caught long on sweeping(?!) during a collapse sounds unlikely to do your case for playing in a higher team much good.

I meant that I was dropped to strengthen the 1s batting - I can see I didn't make that too clear though. If I had played 2s last weekend I was going to be batting at nine.

I felt I had to try to give us something to defend, which is why I took the attacking option

Is that not just playing into the (apparent) opinion of you as a lower order bat who can whack a few? Sometimes a bit of selfishness isn't the worst thing.

frustrating game for us, won the toss and had them 80-9 (despite at least 6 drops) then struggled to get the last one. ended up 112-9 after, 32 overs match abandoned.

we would def have won if we could have got the 10th quickly, shame we cant catch

Second T20 this evening and second win.

Batted first and made 137 all out, contributed 12 runs from 11 balls and felt awful with bat in hand. Not felt good last couple of games.

In reply they mate 128/7 and bowled a tidy 3 overs for 19 runs

Highlights were 4 golden ducks in today’s game 2 per side

Second T20 of the season. 158/7 played 94ao.

Lost the toss and put in, we started badly, but myself and one of the other senior campaigners put on about 80/90. Personally caught for 52 at point, probably the most leg sided innings I've ever played but they kept bowling on my pads or short to pull. Our bowlers then did the job, including a youngest taking career best figures of 4/15. Took a diving catch at long on, all in all another satisfying win. 1s captain was watching, and mentioned that I'm currently up there for the club batting trophy as all senior games are being counted this season, rather than just league games.

Have had 5 t20s and 2 30-over games so far. Won 4, lost 3 is a fair reflection. Some real nail-biters - including a 2 run defeat and a 1 run win. Great team atmosphere, a long waiting list for every game, and pretty much the whole team coming to the pub after the games. The totals have been remarkably consistent: between 135 and 140 in t20s and between 165 and 170 in 30-over games.

I've had a mixed time with the bat -a few single figure scores - still, averaging 45 at a SR of 190 is ok. Bowling has been better, I think mainly thanks to the dry and increasingly tired pitch we've been using for our home games - only 1 not-great spell that went for over a run-a-ball was on an artificial. 9 wickets at 9.5 av and 3.9 econ is a good start.

Played our second mini league game today against a team 2 divisions higher than us albeit it they were a little under strength which in the end made it a good game.

Lost toss and fielded and the two opening bats looked class way above what we are used to but our young gun quick managed to ping one plumb in front for about 10 and then the bowled superbly with the new ball.
Second opener once in played some shots and the way he picked up on length was class to watch and then some how he managed to hit one straight to mid wicket for 50odd (he scored 150odd last week so bonus)

From then on we kept a good hold of the bowling but shelled 3-4 catches me being guilty of one ( in the field today without the gloves) and mine was probably the easiest and always back my fielding.

The ended on an even 200 off 40.

We lost our gun bat in the first over to a worldy of a catch diving full length at skip which he would get away with all the time normally.
Opening bowler was very good shaped ball in at a decent pace but managed to see his spell off and played some nice shots for the first time this season felt really good and got to 35 to the hit a pie of full toss from the spinner straight to mid wicket. So annoyed after all the hard work to get in and see off the new ball and decent bowlers to get out to that.

We then had a mini collapse and ended up 8 runs short after a really good stand between batters 8 & 9. Just shows you can’t drop good players in good sides but was good workout and game was played in a great spirit

Lost again, but some promising signs.

Got 10 batting at 8, lbw sweeping trying to hit out in the last four overs. 1/32 from 7, plumb lbw first ball round the wicket to a left hander. Also ran out their opener who got 82* by a couple of feet, but the umpire wasnt properly in position so didn't give it. Shelled a tough one diving at backward point.

We got 187ao, chased 4 down in the 36th over.
