So settled on my first stock shape. Been a busy week this week but managed to get into the bat shed most evening�s and after almost a month now of making and shaping approx 10 clefts Iv managed to produce the almost exact same shape 3 time�s in a row to a level I personally feel I would hand over my own hard earned money for.

This is what I�m calling the SL06 profile. Simply based on my first born child�s initials and year or birth. This is a standard SH length bat with a mid profile, duckbill toe and full shape with as little concaving as possible. With the clefts I have available Iv been able to the get these to start at about 2.10 finished.

This is another SL06 profile that�s been maker up for someone and heading our next week once the stickers arrive and Iv bound the handle.
Same standard SH length with 38mm edges, 14mm shoulder, 16mm edge of toe and 25mm centre of the toe full profile and bang on 2.10 at present.

Fantastic feeling to have made a bat myself but certainly lots of learnings to take. In hindsight I tried finding to much perfection with the hand tools, draw knife and plane mainly and I finished this stage with the dimensions I wanted but massively underestimated how much I would lose through the sanding stage.
Shoulders are hard and will take some practise to get better but I am happy with the handle. Whilst shaping the handle I ended up with a bit of a square shaped handle and felt really nice so decided to leave the handle more square than rounded it into a full semi oval. Can�t think of the best shape to call it.

In addition the toe and shoulders have ended up a lot smaller than I would have liked due to the over work with the hand tools I think as well as again finishing the shaping to my desired specs.

Positives is that I have managed to ensure the edges line up on both sides with shoulders, toe and max edge matching either side as well. Measure every 8 cm and matched size on each edge and very pleased they all match up.

Finishing. Buying a good quality Makita orbital sander was a very good investment. Sanded from 80 through to 800 grit at intervals of 80, 120, 240, 400 and finally 800. Will have a mirror like finish once buffer arrives.

On to the 2nd cleft now.

Anyway here is the finished bat:

Shoulders 11mm

Toe 14mm

Edge 31mm at peak.

Once work mate. Where did you get the handles from?

Get the handles from the same place I source my clefts mate. A local Suffolk bat maker

First initial batch of stickers with me now for my new brand Willow & Wand cricket. Give me a follow on Instagram. As always any constructive feedback appreciated.

These initial stickers are Gloss finish with the logo In chrome as a transfer with a laminate finish over both to provide some durability.
Used the SLO6 on the right ( green stickers three times now) and have held up really well. Working on some with a Matt finish as I think will look a little bit better with the Chrome overlay. These are not embossed or textured as set up costs are just to high but if anyone knows a U.K. based company that could maybe help me out I�m always looking to improve.

Personally for a first run I like them and they certainly look decent in the flesh.

Love the WW section of the stickers. Very classy. Not so keen on the font for "Willow and Wand". Might look nice in the same colour as the "English Willow" text?

Been keeping myself busy with the bat making and last week had my first official sale which was very pleasing. Contacted and was asked if I could make the SL06 profile in a 2.11/2.12 keeping nice and full with good sized edge and picked a G2 cleft. This cleft was under 3lb at the start so was able to get a big bat in this shape.

Here is the result currently a shade over 2.10 before binding, grip and stickers to will be around the 2.12 mark maybe a little under depending on his grip set up.

3 more finished over the weekend. Two SL06 profiles and a new shape Iv been working on.

New shape Iv been working on that Iv named the AM18 after my second daughter�s initials and year of birth.

This is a shorter blade by 1/2 inch but SH overall length. Square toe rounded at the edge into the the toe? Mid middle and very full. Aiming for almost a Convex shape on these after a bit more practise. This wasn�t the lightest cleft but was for some reason the easiest to work with. Edges are 36mm, shoulder 16 mm and toe 19mm at the edge 26mm at the centre of the toe.
