Depends on the bowling you're facing, you wouldn't be able to hit many 6s in our league, I'm sure
With lighter or heavier bat!

Ok mate...im sure the level you play is the highest around and I most definitely couldn't hit it off the square. I bow to your cricketing ability oh great one.

Just stick to the purpose of the thread AJ and let Soulman showcase his artwork.

Fine with me 🙂
But no one should call an opinion: "non sense", especially on this thread 👍

An opinion that is not grounded in fact is in fact, by definition, non sense. Even though I never actually said it was in the first place!

Didn't mentioned you 🙂
It's all about personal preferences and feel, so nothing works like facts 😊
You will be able to hit 6 with 2lb 8oz, I'm sure, many will not be so sure about this.
Would you try to convince your customers, buying bat at your preferred weight? Or say that, they're talking non sense?

This is one of my favourite ever responses to a post!  :D

AJ on another post you are moaning about batting down the order and playing in lower XIs and being too old to learn then throwing out this sort of childish playground insults.

You clearly don’t understand the point anyone was trying to make.

If you actually read my posts before being juvenile and trying (poorly) to insult me, you’d see that I and others have said bat weight is irrelevant and you should buy what you like 👍🏻

I was referencing the fact that you and others said light bats “can’t hit sixes” which is demonstrably untrue, and therefore again, by definition “nonsense”.

I made no comment on your opinions about how bats feel, I was just dealing with the facts.

Perhaps it would benefit you to do the same!

Sorry Chris, seems to have gone down a rabbit hole.

Forgot to say, well wishes on the new arrival when the time comes! Hope it has no impact on time in the workshop 👀

Is it just three “bat shapes” for now or will the range extend further?

Back to the topic....nice work @SOULMAN1012

Being a little older now I love seeing older style bats come into the workshop, so a great profile this and should do well I think with some people. One question tho, can I have it at 2lbs 7oz with 40mm edges and 67mm spine? Thanks! 😂

Would be interesting to hear what an “average” cleft would come out weight wise with those specs Jonny or Chris. Ofcourse given variables I’m sure there would be a small range. But just for interest what sort of weight are we talking for a regular density piece of timber 🤔

@ch1p thank you for the comments and best wishes. I will take a bit of time away but not to much and is towards the back end of the season really.

Yes just the three shapes and I also do custom requests or copies of old or favourite bats. I think personally when your a small brand as bat maker that 3 is enough of a choice for the average player to choose from. Of course any stock shape can have certain specs added or amended but it’s nice to have 3 that can be replicated with ease and confidence.

I will possibly in the next 12 months increase the range with another glove style and a bag but I’m not going to go down the route of multiple soft options, thigh guards etc I don’t think.

I'll make start a thread and shape one up top show progress etc. Obviously lots of variables and depends what you'd class as an average cleft, but it wouldn't be a light bat that's for sure.

Finally getting round to making myself a bat for this season, Grade 3 and an absolute cannon of a piece of willow.

Now we know where all the great clefts go: in the bat maker's kit bag!  ;)

PS: I think it is easier to find a grade 2 (and above) cannon than a grade 3 or lower.

This I graded as a G3 due to heartwood and some specs and a couple of small
Pin marks all be it outside the playing area. I’m quite strict with grading by and large as I keep honest to the grading that I get the clefts in. Is easy but greedy to upgrade a nice G2 or G3. I’ll share some available clefts later including a stunner that unfortunately has a knot on the back of the bat by the shoulder.
